awaisanen (1135), Irvine, California, USA Jan 29, 2006 Deep mahogony brown pour with a very tall light cream head. I’m getting some vanilla and light caramel notes, along with some light, sweet cocoa, although the overall sensation is relatively weak. The aroma leaves an interesting menthol tickle in the nostrils. The flavor is disappointingly bland and almost more like a brown ale than a Belgian. The finish is a bit more interesting, with a faint touch of raisin and cinnamon coming through. Overall, far too bland to be considered a good Belgian Ale.
note666 (199), Eindhoven, Netherlands Aug 15, 2008 330 ml bottle. ruby brown colour. BIG off white head. not as carbonated as the blond, but still to much. taste is not as dark as I hoped, more fruity than I expected... Borresteijn (509), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 14, 2008 Bottle in Bruges. Dark amber brown colour, beige fluffy head. Aroma of caramel and forest fruits, yeast. Flavour is dry, roasted malts, spices and yeast, forest fruits. OK BoBoChamp (635), Gent, Belgium Jul 20, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, easy to drink, yet complex, clear, rocky head, nice brew joohefner (379), Isla Vista, California, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pours a murky brown-maroon color with thin tan frothy head. It has a light sweet chocolate and phenol aroma. Smooth body with a slight stickiness. Caramel and chocolate flavor with some tart cherries and a light spiciness. The tartness is unexpected and makes me wonder whether it was a bad bottle or a flemish influence.
