Very pale color, bad aftertaste, bit watery in the mouth, claims to have a citrus taste but nowhere to be found. Very bad pils

Bavik’s standard pale lager, with the typical pale golden blonde colour and snow white head; aroma fairly neutral but honest, revealing malt sweetness and grassy hops. Same for the taste: neutral and minerally, malt sweet, grainy, fortunately not cornish, with refreshing grassy hop bitterishness in the finish, but subdued. A little bit better than the same type of beer from the largest Belgian breweries, I’d argue, but still a boring pale lager.

"there’s some nice things going on here, but in the end it’s still just a slightly below average pils. some bitter hop/sweet malt interplay, but no follow through. light and not complex at all, but not bad either."

I think this beer is pretty good. Compared to the more sophisticated Belgian styles, this one appeals to my tastes much more.

Out of the can and into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a light golden yellow color with a two and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing trickles down the sides of the glass. The smell was kind of grassy and hay-like. Light spritzy citrus with a light peppery spice came through. The taste was mildly grassy sweet with a crisp contour rolling over my taste buds. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body. There’s a great sessionability about it as a crisp refreshing fulfilling quality rolls over my tongue. Overall, for the style, this is pretty good for me it’s good and I would have it again.

Alhoewel het maar een pils is, kan er bij pils ook een goede smaak aan zitten. Hier echter niet, echt een slechte pils

Draught @ The Times, Ieper. Pours clear golden with small but stable white head. Clear aroma of hops and yeast, with malty notes. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with notes of yeast and malt. touches of citrus. Bitter aftertaste with mild paperlike notes. Okay but nothing really special.

330 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, apple, pear, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and solid robustness of pale malt, hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a clean finish with no lingering flavors. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and clean mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good pilsner. Well balanced malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors with solid robustness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A bit bland on character, but not watery. A pleasant and enjoyable offering.
