COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In our hometown in 1965, Muhammad Ali won the world heavyweight title with a knockout blow some consider a "Phantom Punch". As our tribute to that fight, this big flippin’ stout packs a wallop of its own, with a ghostly hint of cocoa nib s and vanilla beans.

Can shared by Keith. Pours pitch black with brown head. Not much on the nose. Muted cocoa in the nose. Not much going on here with the cocoa it vanilla.

Pretty awesome stout-in-a-can (cans R sexy = bonus points), can taste the cocoa & vanilla, which combine well together here. Seems like this beer is kind of hard to find @ the moment, at least here in northwestern VT... hopefully not for long.

Fresh can, Winter 2012-2013
Plentiful dark beige head tops this magenta-tinged ebony beer. Not opaque. Medium retention.
Lots of berry character; plums, blackberries, even a tart cherry like note. This gives way to light vanilla and dry roastiness, with only an afterthought of sweetness from the malts. Alcohol is well-concealed. Medium strength overall.
Not nearly as fruity in the mouth as expected, rather standard chocolate-like sweetness emanates from the malts, with the roast building up on the end, providing liquorice, prunes and light berry notes. As it warms, more sweetness emerges, making it more malt-forward. Carbonation is moderate, providing a good drinkability. Very impressed how well reserved the vanilla and cocoa nibs are. They barely play much of a role at all (the vanilla being slightly more noticeable).

A dry and somewhat bitter finish highlights this, overall, mediocre stout. A stout at 6.9% is somewhat of an odd place to be. It’s too strong to be creamy and quaffable like many British or Irish beers, and not nearly strong or complex enough to be an actual Imperial. I also confess to drinking this beer too cold, since it came in a 12-pack sampler with other varieties intended for chilling.
