As days get shorter and sleeves get longer, Baxter Brewing releases its fall seasonal, Hayride Autumn Ale. A generous portion of two rye malts give the beer a full body, bready flavor, and subtle spiciness; while toasted malts provide a touch of sweetness and a rich, almost reddish hue. New Zealand Pacifica and Pacific Jade hops balance Hayride’s maltiness and suggest notes of oranges and tropical fruit. Finally, we cold-condition the beer on oak, with light additions of ginger, black pepper, and orange peel, bringing out the spiciness of the rye and rounding out the soft sweetness of the beer. Hayride will give a touch of warmth for those cool fall nights, while remaining deliciously drinkable.

Overall not a bad beer. Mostly rye spice on the nose and taste with some piney hops as well. Very woody on the aftertaste. Not come thing I'd drink a ton of but decent enough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Meditrina. Clear amber with lasting head and lace. Mild herb and spice aroma. Toasted caramel malts with some ripe peachy fruit and spicy herbal complex finish. Medium body. Nice soft creamy texture. Much better than expected since I’m not a fan of spiced beers. Good.

Interesting beer. Not a big fan of ginger in beer buys soft and not overwhelming. Woody quality dominates aftertaste.

Nice roasted malt aroma with some piney hops. Taste of roasted malt and a slight bitter finish. Roasted malt dominates, but bitter piney hop finish is also pretty strong. Not a bad beer. Has a very fall autumn feel to it. Maybe a bit of spice. Seeing it has rye malt the spice makes sense now. I do not get any of the other flavors listed on the can. Ginger, peppercorn, oak. Do not get those. Or minimal. This is an enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mild, fruity/spicy aroma. Flavor starts bready, with a little minty rye and ginger. Spicy hop finish. Different and pretty good.

Can. Dark amber. Spiced citrus aroma. The taste adds toast, sweet malts, orange, black pepper notes, and a citrus resin on the finish. Pretty complex overall with a medium rich mouthfeel. Interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Clear ruby with a 1 finger beige head. Aroma is ginger, citrus and tropical hops. Taste follows but adds prominent spiciness, toast and vanilla oaky notes. Medium smooth mouthfeel with little carb. Tasty and well balanced but there's a little too much going on.

From the 12 fl. oz. can. It pours medium amber with a long lasting cream colored, foamy head. Aroma of roasted malts and earthy or floral hops bit neither takes over the other. Medium body. Same type of taste with maybe the slightest herbal bite. Very much like a standard pale ale.

Can at the cabin in NH. Pours murky, red-brown with suspended yeast floaties and a frothy, white head. The nose has rich brown bread, light nutmeg, some ripe orange. Light to medium sweet flavor with grainy brown bread, nutmeg, other spices, cinnamon, mild earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish with candied fruits, orange, dirt, grains, light alcohol. OK.
