In our hometown in 1965, Muhammad Ali won the world heavyweight title with a knockout blow some consider a "Phantom Punch". As our tribute to that fight, this big flippin’ stout packs a wallop of its own, with a ghostly hint of cocoa nib s and vanilla beans.

Silky black pour with a creamy dark tan head. Sweet aroma of raisin, caramel and cocoa. Flavor is the same. Emphasis on the sweet and fruity. Finish is strongly bitter, but somehow doesn’t really touch the sweetness. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Lack of balance is a bit startling, but flavors are intense. Doesn’t seem Baxter makes a bad beer.

12oz. can: This one pours an inky dark brown color. there was a small tan head that didn’t leave any lacing. Decent but lighter nose. Some chocolate, roasted malts and maybe a hint of vanilla. The taste is good. Chocolate and roasted malts, faint vanilla. Neutral: no sweetness or bitterness noticeable. Tasty.

Nice heavy coffee-like aroma. Good solid dark brown color as it should be for a stout. Taste is a bit bit smoky and bitter which detracts from the sweet maltiness. Vanilla flavor is not prominent. Overall a tasty stout.

Not a complex beer, but admirable in a consistent bitterness. Coffee to unsweetened cocoa. Nothing "phantom" about it, what you see and taste is what you get, and it’s good.

Can: Black, with a slightly purplish, dark tan head. Light, smoky chocolate scent. Slightly over-cooked coffee, bitter chocolate taste... Light ashy bitter. Not bad, but pretty weak and watery overall. Needs a bit more punch....and less phantom.
