3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Baxter Stowaway IPA is a cloudy ale that straddles golden and amber, topped with a thin, off white foam that leaves attractive lacing on the glass. It has a solid, fresh pine aroma with notes of grapefruit peel and black pepper. It’s pretty light bodied. It’s smooth and maybe a bit watery. It has a chalky finish. Ample bitterness of pine resin lasts throughout the sip and past the swallow. It’s peppery and dry. This seems like something you’d be able to get in a brewpub on the West Coast in the late ’90s; a throwback of sorts. Quite solid.

12 oz can poured into a S.A. perfect pint glass. Amazing, thick, luscious hazy orange hue...the way an IPA should look, IMHO. Powerful scent of pine needles and bready malt on the nose. Light carbonation and medium mouthfeel, enhance the syruppy resin of the hops. Not too hoppy on the back end, the malt is quite present. Very nicely balanced...would like to buy this by the caseload!

Taste is predominantly nice bitterness. Aroma of cereal, citrus, herbs and wet leaves. Pours orange-amber with rocky tan head. Creamy and full-bodied with soft carbonation and a bitter finish. Overall nice and fairly light on alcohol for the bitterness compared to what I’m used to. Real easy to drink.

GBBF. Hazy amber beer, tidy off white head. Light semi dry palate. Mild fine carbonation. Lovely juicy hops - marmalade with fresh hop sting. Red berry fruits. Pine and grass. Semi dry finish. Hop sting linger. Very drinkable and quite lovely.

Love the artwork, find the beer itself to be rather plain and boring. Was poured sample serving at Leary’s Grand Tasting a few hours earlier. Pours an orangey color with a quickly-dimisishing head. Too Amarillo-bitter, IMHO, but it was nicely balanced between malt and hops used.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Aroma: Nose fully of complex west coast hop fruit - passion fruit, mango tropicals most pronounced.
Appearance: Bright orange to light brown w/ unfiltered haze.
Taste: Great complex hop flavor with a perfect complementary malt light sweetness.
Palate: Full bodied hop punch with just enough malty background to support it.
Overall: One of, if not the best truly balanced high hop American IPAs. A must buy when and where you can get it.
