Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Very sour. Tastes like a wheat beer gone wrong. Very low alcohol......this reminds me of a lemonade.

On tap at Nocturnem. Pours very pale with a thin white head. Not my favorite style but it hit the spot at the time. Lemon up front, very tart but the finish was a little dryer making it more drinkable.

Bottle at Øltorget, april 3rd 2015. Clear light yellow body with a fizzy white head. Aroma is tart with bread and citrus fruits. Taste of lemon peels, wheat, sour and dry. Fresh acidic finish without being extreme. A nice sessionable berliner.

11.2 oz (really? looks alot smaller) from the Coop over the weekend for about $5. Poured into my New Belgium snifter. 1" head dies back to just a collar and no lacing atop a very clear wit colored brew... very light... Aroma is "wheaty" with a little bit of sour.. more grainy than anything. Flavor puts a couple punctuation marks on the aroma.. soft pale malts are punted through the uprights by the abundant lemon. I don’t really know what to say about this brew.. reminds me of green tea and lemonade without the sweetness.... drinkability is off the charts especially when it is still hot as can be at 1:00 am in Boise. Drinkable without being watery.. Body is light as expected.. but I am still a huge fan.

Lys gul noe tåkete med fingerhøyt hvitt skum. Lukter smørmaltdrops. Veldig syrlig smak mot grønne epler. Medium lang syrlig ettersmak.

Bottle pours out a hazy straw topped with a small white head. Nose is sour tartness sourdough bread and honey. Taste is more of the tart honey sweetness and some bread.

Hmm, somehow never rated this one. Pours a hazy pale deep yellow color with a quickly receding light tan head. The smell is juicy tart fruit, sour apples, easy wheat. The taste is as it smells. Quite tart, sour and dry. A lot of apple skin with some earthiness. The body is light with active carbonation.

Bottle. Sour, milky and citric beer. Eau de Cologne, wet wood, wafers and a whiff of honey. Unexpectedly complex. Light, crisp and watery, initially a tad malty, finishing citric acidic and sour milky. A marginal salty note in the finish as well. The milkiness manages to emulate the non-existent body somehow. Well, it’s an interesting beer for sure. And not one I particularly like either.

Poured at Blackbird. Poured light hazy yellow with disappearing head. Aroma tangy tart sweet honey grain. Light carb med bod. Med tart sour hay grain taste.

Bottle - Soured wheat and some light perfumy notes. Clear yellow gold with a frothy white head. Tart, light sour lemon and some soapy notes. A nice classic version. Finish is really nice tart/salt.
