COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Very sour. Tastes like a wheat beer gone wrong. Very low alcohol......this reminds me of a lemonade.

Draft at Monks. Pours a flat, headless, light straw. No lace. Notes of wheat, lemon rinds, light vinegar and a little funk. Light body, easy drinking. Solid berliner but it no 1809.

bottle. Pale straw with one finger head. Very tart with lots of lemon. Quite refreshing and smooth other than the puckering sourness.

Sample at Winking Lizard. Pours a pale straw color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of tart fruit and grain. Light-bodied with flavors of mildly sour fruit and grain. The finish is dry with a tart fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.

Served with a raspberry syrup. Aroma:Tart, sour aroma with hints of fruit from syrup. Appearance: Clear dark gold with no head. Hints of pink from the syrup. Taste: heavy sourness balanced by a fruity sweetness from the syrup Palate:Full body, dry texture, average carbonation, long finish Overall: Unique, certainly. A sipping beer, but not unpleasant. Still, very sour.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy very pale straw color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tart apple, pear, grape, raspberry, lemon, hay, grass, honey, wheat, funk, white vinegar, and earthy spiciness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky notes with some light malt presence. Taste of tart apple, pear, grape, lemon, honey, wheat, grass, hay, light vinegar, funk, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, citrus, honey, hay, grass, light vinegar, light funk, and earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and complexity of fruity/funky ester flavors with slight malt balance; feels fairly watery, but not too bad; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish as expected. Overall this is a very nice Berliner weisse style. Nice overall balance and complexity of yeast ester flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. The aromas were the winner vs the taste; but this was still very enjoyable.

Very pale yellow and hazy color with minimal head and lacing. Not the most attractive beer I’ve seen. Has a lemony and tangy wheat aroma with perhaps a bit of funk. Slightly tart lemon and wheat taste dominates with some light fruit and a little sweetness at the end. Mouthfeel and body are light with a somewhat lively carbonation. Only my second beer of this style and, while I liked it, I think the style has more to offer in the way of taste.

Poured from a 11.2 ounce bottle. This poured a straw color with a brown tinge, oxidization. The aroma is sour, hay, doughy, slight saline, musty, again oxidization. The flavor is sour apple, bready, doughy, cardboard. I would like a fresh example. The age and oxidation of this beer really hurt its drinkability.

Bottle:   Pale straw, cloudy at the last pour, moderate white sudsy head, decent lacing.   Odd, seems tart on the nose but also a very sweet tobacco hint.   Pale tartness, slightly wheaty.   Not terribly sharp, clean, but not up to par compared to others.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Slight stale tobacco flavor on the exit.   Only slightly dry.   I have had better.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is very light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of crabapple, lemon juice. Flavor is lightly sweet, moderately to heavily acidic. Finish is trace sweetness, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly bitter. Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Dull nose, but the assertive sourness is bracing/refreshing. Nothing special.
