Commercial Description:
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Tap. Pours a pale yellow with lots of head although I did not sense that it was overly carbonated. Nose is lightly citric. Flavor is by no means overly acidic and can be enjoyed without the addition of a sweet syrup. I had it both ways and although I usually enjoy it with the woodruff syrup, this was nicer without. A tart, refreshing, light summertime brew with low alcohol that you can keep on sipping and chatting.

Pours very pale yellow with a bone white head. The aroma has some lightly tartness, lemon / orange citrus and hints of spice. Thin ultra crisp body with effervescent carbonation. The taste starts clean, mildly tart, citric and lightly sweet with a smoothness to the taste. The finish adds a bit of an aspirin taste. A nice beer, but as intense as most in the style. As the beer warms it gets more powdery.

Objectively speaking: An extremely mild berliner weisse that is ultimately not that pleasant nor interesting to drink.
I like: Strong wheat extraction. Soft and delicate tartness. Gentle soft cracker nuances to the malts. Refreshing, albeit one-dimensional lemon constancy. Champaign reminiscences indeed.
I dislike: A bit rough, biting carbonation. Tame very pale yellow with a muddy haze, fully effervescent, but not much head retention for a wheat beer. Not very effective fruitiness. The seltzer water, mineral impressions get tiresome. Not very lactic. Perhaps it needs to be very fresh.

Pours a sickly lightly hazed light yellow with a big old loose white head, when I pour carefully. Adding yeast, and the color is an unearthly yellow glow. The nose is slightly grainy, slightly wheaty, not a ton of character. Maybe a bit sweet and ever so slightly acidic. Maybe slightly vegetal. Light fluffy lively body. Higher carbonation. The flavor is very wheaty, especially in the finish. A bit of initial acidity and slight tartness, but nothing particularly crazy. Maybe a hint of lacto, but not much. Bummer. A little bit of lemon in the start of the finish, but the wheaty grain flavors just drag this down from the refreshment it should be. Maybe a touch of astringency left in the mouth.

Pours a light lemonade yellow with just a little bit of have. Aroma is pretty uninspiring. A little bit of citrus maybe and a touch of malt, but not much there. This beer’s description is spot on; it’s definitely a more mellow version of the Berliner-Weisse style. So mellow that it loses any real semblance of flavor. It’s not bad, but there’s nothing here that really pops, and that’s more of what I’d expect from this style.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Palest beer I’ve ever seen, including some macros. A cloudy shade of banana pith with a bright white head that fizzes up to 2 fingers before settling at a moderate pace, leaving very little lace. Aroma is clearly wheaty, with the classic banana ester character. However there’s a touch of tartness as well. Flavor is tart lemony citrus and a touch of lactic acid. The banana is very subdued but detectable. Carbonation is actually a little too low here, resulting in a less-than-optimal palate. Sticky and not very crisp for a style that’s intended to be refreshing. Body is as thin as can be, making this quite drinkable.
