COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

[bottle] Very pale yellow color, poured with minimal foam. Nice lemon and lactic aroma. Flavors are tart and acidic, but still quite smooth. Very fruity citrus and wheat character. Not harsh in any way.

Bottle as shown thanks to Rainer. Pours a cloudy pink beige with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong lacto, oak, horse blanket. Thin mouthfeel and warhead like sourness with strong tart finish. SO sour, really enjoyed this one.

11.2 oz bottle poured out into a tulip. No syrup around, don’t even know what a woodruff is. It pours out a hazy yellow/white with a big white head that quickly fades away. Tangy aroma halfway between a wheat beer and a run of the mill German lager. Flavor obviously dominated by the sour lactic flavor, reminds me of the juice from those plastic squeeze lemons. There’s a little funk hiding in both the flavor and the aroma. The light and fizzy mouthfeel enhances the flavor. Good and fairly easy to find representation of the style, I appreciate being able to find a sour that’s not in a giant 750 ml bottle! That said it’s pretty pricey for what you get.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 My first "real" Berliner Weisse. Nice, sour, crisp, bubble gum flavour, lime and bakery by-products. Thick on the palate. Lovely with raspberry cordial.

Bottle. Pours golden yellow, fairly hazy, likely due to recent transport. White head, settles quickly with no lace. Aroma is wheat, mildly tart, citrus. Flavor is orange, lemon, mildly tart, sugary sweet, hint of orange soda, with a mild, sweet wheat finish. Light and mild for the style, quaffable and pleasant. Moderate carbonation, light body, crisp texture.

Fizzy lemony tart and lightly sweet. Nothing remarkable but something that i wish i could get a 12 pack of on a hot summer day. Refreshing crisp and good.

Bottle (330 ml). Clear yellow/golden with a small mostly lasting white head and little to no lacing. Aroma is of hay, lemon, light tartness, light yogurt and wheat. Taste is slightly tart with lemony notes, yogurt and light hay. Light body. Fizzy carbonation. Crisp. This one isn’t complex by any mean, but it’s heavily drinkable and quite refreshing. I would drink this on a regular basis.

12oz bottle pours semi-clear pale yellow with small head. Nose is tart lemon juice, grains, wheat. Taste is cereal grains and acidic tart lemon, citrus, lacto, salt, almost closer to a gose. Finish is salty tart lemon with lasting cereal, however there is a faint unpleasant bile and moldy cheese note as the finish trails off.

12 fluid ounces bottle opened by WillRunForBeer at his Merrimac flat. Many thanks! To wheat glass, it pours a piss yellow tonality; zero head, only a few whitish bubbles shown. Aromas of wheat cereal, French farmhouse yeast, pilsner malt, grape must, and pork salt. Tastes the same with the addition of plastic, minerals, bell peppers, and fried plantains by mid-palate. Yeasty and palatable.
