Huguenots may have originated the style as they traveled through France to Flanders, having first mentioned it in the 1600s. During their time, there were said to be seven hundred weissbier breweries in Berlin. Later, in 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. Bayrischer Bahnhof’s interpretation is a slightly softer, more mellow version of the “Berliner Weisse” style with a beautiful balance of tartness, fruitness, and sweetness.

Giallo paglierino, limpidissima con buon perlage. Schiuma sottile frizzantina. Al naso bella acidula con qualche sentore agrumato. Anche al palato molto acidula, note di limone, carbonazione media e corpo medio. Birra di buon livello, rinfrescante.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours straw yellow with a white head. Taste citrus, sour, fruity. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle, from trade with Erzengel. Many thanks! Pours cloudy gold with receding white head. Aroma is tart lemon, giving way to some oxidised cobwebs, leading me to look for the Best Before date, which is nowhere to be found but I assume its past its best. Refreshing, lightly tart Berliner character but the off-putting oxidisation just makes it difficult to finish.

Bottle share on the 42nd as ’Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Style Weisse’, 3.0%. Many thanks to Scopey. Very pale yellow, clear, lightly sparkling, foamy white head, full lacing. Aroma is apple peel, papery, some toffee. Body is light, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is thin apple, salt water, some citrus peel, cracker malts, soft sourness, a little oxidised. Not great. (2.5)

Straw blond with no head. This one has a weird taste. Soapy. Salty. Really thin and watery texture.

Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team. Couleur dorée, persque transparente, birch sap water, col minime blanc.

On tap a Global Brew. Pours a hazy very pale yellow with a medium white head. Taste is pale wheat malt, some sweetness, but primarily mildly sour. Mild fruitiness comes through a bit. Almost like champagne.

On tap. Pours a light gold with a foamy white head and an aroma of tart fruit and a small amount of funk. The flavor is slightly sweet tropical fruit with a tart finish over a light body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

42nd Floor Tasting. Thanks to Paul. Almost clear gold beer, thin pale cream colour head. Palate is light and dry, modest fine carbonation. Dirty dry stale start, a little lemon zing lifts it but then it a dusty and woody finish, dry. Bleh!
