Tap flight at Bavarian Lodge. Very light honey straw color with a thin white head. Sour apple nose. Very tart but not vinegary like a lot of sours. This isn’t as sour as billed on the menu. Lemon juice for sure, but there’s a full bready/biscuit malt characteristic to this, too. It’s not more sour than Duchesse De Bourgone but not as sweet. I was expecting Cantilion and got Petrus. This is complex and nice. Sour and dry in the mouth. Consider it class 2A in the sour undergraduate curriculum.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Borresteijn (2756) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 24, 2012
33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Slight hazy pale greenish golden colour, white head. Aroma is light tart, milky (whey), fresh wheat, light fruity. Flavour is rather tart at first, leaning to sour, milky, sour lemons, wheat, light fruity, light sweet floral finish with some tartness. Light bodied. OK, kind of refreshing, but still too sour for me to be really enjoyable.

Bottle to tulip. I’m becoming more and more of a fan of this style, especially because of the flavor for such a low abv beer. This one is no exception. Looks fine; light with lots of carbonation. Smells pretty good; like a weisse. Tastes good; tart and refreshing. Good on the palate too. This is a beer I could (and will) go back to over and over again.

Hazy golden color with white sheen. Wheat bread, lemon, lactic, melon fruit aromas. Medium bodied with average co2. Nice pale wheat, lactic, lemon flavors with some melon fruit sweetness--tasty.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Appearance is like water just slightly tainted with yellow food coloring that just so happens Tom have a huge white head of foam. Great retention. It smells like skittles, or at least some kind of over the top sweet candy. Taste is nicely sour, but the tartness builds as each drink progresses. Like in waves of bliss. Finish is tart that progresses to a nice bready, wheaty note.

Tap at Brauhaus Schmitz. Almost clear pale yellow with almost no white head. Aroma was mild, funky bacterial infected dishwashing cloth that never dried out for a month, mild wheat/grain, and... hops?
Flavor is immediately sour/tart/acidic, mild wheat/grain and minimal hops. Only light bodied. I’m glad I got to experience this but something with more flavor is my preference. It did pair well with the Limburger cheese that shared the bacterial funk.
The woodruff syrup, which I added at the end of the glass, made it taste like "Lucky Charms".

Cloudy light golden yellow color with foamy white head. Smells like a hefe with a soft yeasty and lemony aroma. Pleasant sour and tart palate with flavors of lemon and chardonnay,

11.2 oz bottle. Aroma is sweet and funky. It reminds me a bit of those candy orange circus peanuts...ones that have been sitting in a bowl of rancid watered-down vinegar for a few days, that is...not a nice-smelling beer at all. Pours pale hazy yellow with a medium dissipating white head. Taste is thankfully much better than the aroma let on. It’s nice and tart and acidic and what I’d expect from this German sour ale style. The tartness has a sweet counterpoint. Body is really thin and the carbonation is soft to medium. This is still a pretty unique style to me, and I wish the aroma wasn’t so off-putting, because it’s still intriguing and a style I’d like to explore further. I hope future examples that come my way smell a bit more appetizing.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Damico (1393) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 15, 2012
Pours clear yellow almost white straw (like urine even) in color with a bright white head. The aroma is lightly sweet with a unique tartness, crisp, and smooth. The flavor is a bit more mellow as described with a pleasant tartness that doesn’t pucker as much as you would normally expect. You get light shallow tart, not quite citrus more ale flavors.
