3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 Psytron (875) - Turku, FINLAND - MAY 22, 2013
Smell of yeast, mead, sour berries, kilju. Amber colour, very cloudy, with high beige head. Very sour, somewhat salty, with sweetness from alcohol content. Flat carbon. Aroma of raisins, alcohol, oak, leaves, yeast, tequila. Quite hardcore in many ways.

Hazy orange with almost no head. Smells of oranges and tequila. Oaky and very citrusy. Smooth with a very lemony finish.

Bottle from Fermentation Market. Hazy dirty penny color pour with a bubbly white head. Saline solution, yeasty funk, oak barrel, tequila, spices and hint of vanilla in the nose. Flavor is briny pickle spices, agave, lactic acid, pale malt sweetness, oak barrel, herbal spiciness and booze coming through in the back end. Definitely interesting beer and not sure the the flavors meld that well together. I’m not a Tequila fan either.

Great Concept. Flavors mesh well. Medium body, light salt flavor that is accentuated by the tequilas barrel. Slight lactic note, tons of tequila as it warms up. Very interesting experiment.

Pours cloudy and golden. The first pour was quite clear, so I assume I just kicked up some sediment. The head puffs up a whole bunch of fine white bubbles quickly, and it mostly dissipates just about as quickly. The aroma is a fascinating mix of sweet, herbal tequila notes, pale malt sweetness, brine, coriander and lacto sourness. Personally, I quite like the agave sweetness, and if that’s not your thing, this probably isn’t the beer for you. The tequila barrel is a bit stronger than the other flavors in the aroma, but it’s bright and friendly. There’s nice oak in the mix, as well. The taste starts off with some simply sweet malt flavor, nice and fresh. Yogurty lacto sourness and coriander follow. The beer finishes with salt and more of that bright, pleasant tequila barrel. The aftertaste is citrusy tequila barrel and that gose salty sourness. There’s a citrus cider-ish quality to the beer. I quite enjoy both the tequila barrel and the double strength gose flavors and find them and the sum total rather interesting, but I can definitely understand opposing views on that topic. Mouthfeel is pretty clean and crisp. Prickly carbonation. Not seeing much love for this beer, but I quite like it. The bright, sweet tequila flavor is probably the star of the show, and that’s not going to be a universally appealing flavor. At any rate, it’s definitely a top five tequila barrel-aged imperial gose in my book.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 crossovert (4596) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 24, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2013 You’ve heard of a doppel weizenbock, but this is a doppel gosebock. It pours a hazy amber with a large, fizzy white head. The smell is wheat, wood, citrus, coriander, and tequila. The smell is intoxicating, especially the wood tones. The flavor is savory at first sip. Then the malt comes through with a nice breadiness, the tequila is big and adds some alcohol astringency and some vanilla. It isn’t super sour but there is a nice acidity that blends with a touch of funk and spice. This is an intriguing and complex beer. I never would have guessed tequila would be a good match for such a beer but then again the salt an coriander do make a good match, I guess I never thought this would come out of Germany.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Boutip (3979) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 20, 2013
Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color Gose with a huge off-white head with excellent retention and some good lacing. Aroma of salt and light coriander notes with light Tequila and agave notes with a light citrusy finish. Taste is way saltier then I had anticipated with less Tequila notes then I was expecting. Coriander is quite subtle with a finish that brings out the lime and agave notes. Body is quite full with strong carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I must admit that this beer is a unique experience that I enjoyed somewhat but don’t necessarily need to repeat on a regular basis.

375ml bottle pours a clear, dark yellow with some cloudy white head. Smells like tequila and nail polish remover, almost like a watered down shot of Jose Cuervo. Tastes of lime, agave syrup, honey, lime and booze. Medium bodied finish. You should probably seek this out if you like tequila.
