3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Mekong, recently voted the best beer bar in America. Pours black with a good size tan head. Aroma is roast, light chocolate, faint fruit. Flavor is a match. There is very faint funk in the background. It is way in the background, and just provides interest as opposed to dominating things. Enjoyable, complex brew. One of the more interesting beers Iíve had in some time.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
11.2 oz. bottle, labeled as ďPorticus Leipziger Doppel-Porter.Ē Iíve owned this bottle for at least a year, so consider it at least mildly aged. Aroma features milk chocolate, carob, peach, whipped cream, raisin, and cherry scents. Pours an opaque dark brown with a large amount of long-lasting, fluffy, thick, uneven, taupe head. Excellent, extensive lacing. Superb head. Liquid looks fine, but the head is undeniably cool. The taste is tart initially but fades into a dry, creamy, mocha flavor. Crabapple, tart cherry, and cinnamon elements. Subtle flavor overall. Light to medium body. Silky and frothy in the enjoyable palate. Good smell and okay flavor, but this beer is really about the silky/frothy appearance and mouthfeel. A fun and unique brew.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11oz bottle courtesy brewolf. Thanks. Pours a muddy dark brown color with a monster beige head that has great retention and crazy lacing. The aroma is soft with dark fruits and roasted grains. The flavor features more dark fruits, some licorice, molasses, salt and chocolate. The palate is full and smooth with mild carbonation. Finishes medium in duration with lingering anise. Overall: good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Super deep dark brown body with only slivers of light getting through the bottom of the glass, with a thick, luscious and long-lasting, six centimetre tall light brown head. When opening the bottle, I had some spillage, but not a crazy amount and was able to quickly pour it in the glass, but beware! Aroma of dense roasted malt, tons of sugars, tons of pit fruits and perhaps the most yeast Iíve smelled from a beer - this is pure bread. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong german hop notes (pellets, though it tastes like) with a floral and almost medicinal flavour then showing some chocolate and roasty notes with the yeast and bread flavours hitting at the end. Aftertaste is deep and robust with a lot of flavours all coming at once - nicely, but very potent. Overall, a good beer with plenty of interesting tastes, but it was only okay as a Baltic Porter; When you have to compete against Zywiec Porter, itís tough to even come close, and sadly, this one doesnít. I sampled this stubby, 33 cL bottle purchased from Normís in Vienna, Virginia on 16-February-2012 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-August-2012.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at The Lionís Pride.
Came to the table a solid black color with a small bubbly tan head that dissipates to a cap. Smells of roast and chocolate with an earthy spicy edge to it. I canít find very much funk in the nose. Flavors of roast, caramel, and chocolate with hints of tart cherry and an earthy menthol thing going on in the background. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a roasty chalky mouthfeel. Its a decent enough porter with a hint of funk that hides in the background but you know its there. I almost wanted more funk or none at all, its in a weird middle ground.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A - Pours a fairly dark brown with a big two fingers of frothy khaki-chocolate head. The head fades down very slowly leaving behind some good lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted chocolate malts with some dark caramel malts, dark fruits, Brett, bready malts, with some smoke, vanilla, molasses, and earthy hops.
T - Starts off with some roasted chocolate malts with some cherry, raisin, and other dark fruits and some candi sugar. Through the middle, some funky Brett comes through with some earthy hops, smoke, vanilla, Belgian yeast, and molasses. The finish is a mix of roasted chocolate and other dark malts, with some dark fruit, funky Brett, smoke, and some earthy hops.
M - Medium-light bodied with moderate-plus carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet, roasty, and funky finish.
D - Very drinkable. The beer is a bit over carbonated so it comes off a bit thin. Otherwise, there are a lot of really great flavors in this one.
