This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4,5 Vol. % alcohol and 10,8 % wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

Pours cloudy gold with thin white head that doesn’t last long. Nose like a drying tidal basin: salt water, flowers, earth. Adds a honey note as it warms. A bit different on the palate, with salt present but only as an accent, and spices noticeable but mild, along with orange-lemon citric flavor that is lightly tart rather than sour. Combined with a light body and low carbonation, the overall effect is restrained, but it’s a good third quencher.

Bottle from Glug, Newcastle. Cloudy yellow coloured pouring with a thin white head. It has a sharp, sweet lemon flavour followed by sweet sherbet, floral tropical notes and bitter lemon on the dry finish.

0.5 l draught @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, Tampere. Cloudy golden colour, minimal head. Taste is very refreshing, but nor really that sour, not Belgian sour or Finnish salty. Quite fruity. Very different for a German beer. Goes with pub food or just for session.

330 ml bottle shared by Werckmeister, thanks!
Amber, clear body, with a big, frothy, off-white head.
Aroma of coriander and other spices, fresh herbs, grass, salt, some sweet fruits.
Taste follows this, with some more citrus.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes soft, spicy, salty, fruity, a bit fresh herbal.

Nice one. Nothing special, quite average Gose, but refreshing and well balanced. Coriander is well integrated.

Bottle from Gulating Strømmen enjoyed at home
Golden hazy, white head. Smell of light malts, hints of lemon and yoghurt, some coriander as well, quite refreshing. Light sweet, some tart yoghurt, coriander, light salty, very refreshing, moderate sour acids. Well balanced off, quite enjoyable and a superb thirstquencer.

33cl bottle from Ales of Europe: BBD 1st July 15. Poured into vase shaped Coors Banquet glass at home on 19th June 15. Misty golden body, carbonation bubbles rising up to a thin but full white sheet of foam as a head. Not a lot going on in the nose: even as the beer warmed, but the sourness certainly comes through in the mouth, with a cutting bite. Spiced feel to the flavour, might even pick up the salt content too. Different and most likely the best ’Gose’ I have had so far: which is not a large number.
