This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4,5 Vol. % alcohol and 10,8 % wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

Bottle from AJ’s/ Deep gold color, cloudy, almost pastel, with a fine low head. Quite lactic nose, lemon, wheat. Very bready flavor, wheat, lactic, light lemon. A touch of salt and coriander, especially in the after taste. Very subdued and malty compared to American interpretations. Good, though, and refreshing.

Bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Atlanta Highway). Light fruity nose, with salted butter, lemon, sesame, and yeast. Light hazy pale straw color. Wheat, citric acid, lemon, some honey, and a sprinkle of salt. Thin, lightly tart in mid palate. Refreshing stuff. Coriander... well, maybe just a touch. Nice one, this.

This poured a golden color with little head. Aroma contains salty lemons. Flavor is lacking that salt and is sour similar to a berliner. This is like gose light. Overall refreshing but not complex.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2014 Aroma of grains, coriander, some fruitiness, lemon. Flavour is mild sour, much milder than I had hoped. Definitely good, but I expected a little more more from this historic brew.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow/gold with lots of carbonation, little head. Aroma is lemon, funk. Taste is slightly sour/salty though not overpowering. Savory element from the spices though not easily identifiable on my palate. Easy drinker but not anything to write home about for me.

Pours hazy gold with a thin head. Light salt and tartness blend beautifully with the wheat backbone.

Golden color. Coriander and tart notes. No salt though. Spritzy and easy to drink. Okay gose.

Resurrection of a bizarre historical beer style from 18th-century Leipzig, a wheat beer with lactic fermentation, salt (!) and coriander (and thus an exception to the Reinheitsgebot)... Stable, creamy, snow white head on top of a cloudy, ’dirty’ blonde beer. Sour and somewhat grainy aroma with wheat, coriander, sweat, jute, yoghurt, grapefruit and mango and indeed, a sniff of salt seems to shine through. Taste a dry sourishness, wheaty and bready, sour cream, just a tad of saltiness though (fortunately) very subtle, finishing again in dry sourishness, but thirst-quenching alright. Interesting, though not my cup of tea.
