COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4,5 Vol. % alcohol and 10,8 % wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

First Gose for me. Expected more coriander. Appearance looked like a standard lager but very little head, no lace. Decent golden color with a lot of carbonation action. As mentioned didn’t pick up any coriander in the aroma (and taste). The salt was not noticeable in the flavor but found in the aftertaste. Similar to the salt-flavor-aftertaste you get after sipping a margarita. The mouthfeel was originally very lively but I didn’t pound the beer and after sitting 10 min or so, it quickly came across almost flat. It was refreshing at first, then became more interesting than sessionable. I don’t have any other Gose reference so I attempted to be fair in evaluating.

Dorato arancio, velata, schiuma bianchissima a grana fine di buona persistenza. Al naso lievito, erbe e coriandolo. Bevuta conferma la nota salina, lattosa, coriandolo e leggermente agrumi. Molto leggera. Note lattiche e acidule presenti ma non fastidiose. Interessante birra.

330ml bottle at home as ’Gasthaus & Gosebaruerei Bayerischer Bahnhof Original Leipziger Bier Spezialitat Gose’; 4.6%, BB July 2016, brewed with coriander and salt. Hazy orange, highly sparkling, huge foamy beige head dies down quickly. Aroma is lime and coriander, some ginger, herbal tea, quite floral, berries. Body is light, spritzy carbonation. Taste is coriander and clay, ginger and light grains, some lime squash, carbonated ice tea. Very refreshing. Makes a change to try a German gose! Tasty and worth trying. Interesting.

On tap @ Bir&Fud, Roma - IT. Color: cloudy pale blond beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: saison and herbal notes. Sourness and astringent. Some spicy notes. Lactic finish. Taste: light body with lactic attack, sourness and astringent. Good attenuation and quiet drinkable. Nice herbal and floral notes. Aftertaste: lactic with saison yeast notes. Fresh sensation. Good beer, quiet drinkable. Good balance.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a German stange glass. Appearance: The color is bright yellow with a cloudy haze and a bright white head. The head is tall and slow fading. Lacing is light and slick. Smell: The aroma is mild overall with light sour malt notes, minerals and a touch of lemony citrus. Taste/Palate: It has a light cracker like malt base with mild sour notes. I also pick up some mineral and dry spice notes with light citrus tartness. The finish is crisp dry and mildly astringent.

Starts with some difficulties. Hard to get in the glass. Seems to have an high carbonation. But not a gusher. Anyway a nice unclear yellow color, and off course a quite bit white head. The head stays for a long time. Annoying actually in this matter. Nice fresh aroma with a fine intensity. Starts really well. Looks god and a fine aroma. The body feels a bit light. Mostly due to a to high carbonation. Fizzy mouth feel. A quite mild and balance flavor. Everything in harmony with each other. Wheat, herbal/coriander, citric and mild salt. Not very sour, and not very lactic either. Lovely stuff on a sunny afternoon. Just a bit to high carbonation destroyed a quite high rating.

Hazy golden, average and quite stable head. Aroma is soft bready malts, gentle acrid notes (citrus) and maybe a flowery hint. Taste has a soft bready malts foundation plus salt and citric notes; it’s moderately sweet with distinct but delicate tartness and a quick refreshing finish. Body is light, mouthfeel is very easy and smooth but still quite lively. Pleasant, easy and highly refreshing

10cl sample from bottle at the Leuven Innovation Beer Festival II 2016 (16 V 2016). This original Leipziger Gose came from the traditional bottle, of which I of course bought another one. I had already heard a lot of this archetype Gose beer, originated from Saxony. A kind of a Berliner Weisse (sour) with coriander and salt (spices). The sample looks dark yellow with a small white head. The nose actually is a dry white wine, with subtle peach flavours. The taste is flat, dry, soury, yet not too tart. White grapes, lemon water, evens some malts and lacto. A light bodied, perfect quencher. Glad to have had this one. The Gose in the different variations is more interesting though.

Bottle, Hazy gold with a negligible white head and a light but prickly fizz. Salt and lemon smell. Salt is in charge of the flavour too but not overwhelmingly so; there’s space for some light lemon, a touch of funky tartness behind and some spice in the finish. Maybe a bit thin at times and lacks the wow factor, but otherwise well balanced and refreshing- although with that usual gose marketing genius thing of the salt leaving you thirsty for more!
