This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4,5 Vol. % alcohol and 10,8 % wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

First Gose for me. Expected more coriander. Appearance looked like a standard lager but very little head, no lace. Decent golden color with a lot of carbonation action. As mentioned didn’t pick up any coriander in the aroma (and taste). The salt was not noticeable in the flavor but found in the aftertaste. Similar to the salt-flavor-aftertaste you get after sipping a margarita. The mouthfeel was originally very lively but I didn’t pound the beer and after sitting 10 min or so, it quickly came across almost flat. It was refreshing at first, then became more interesting than sessionable. I don’t have any other Gose reference so I attempted to be fair in evaluating.

Initially decided to only include ratings of new beers. But now adding in some older beers, but without details comments. The easiest Gose to track down and it sort of reflects that. Essentially it’s a bit bland.

Aroma: sour and salty; Appearance: hazy yellow-orange pour with thin head; Taste: starts like a gose but then lots of malt takes over; would have rather kept it as a pure gose since this one isn’t very refreshing; Palate: medium body with long, malty finish; Overall: not so great; would not buy again.

Bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is herbal honey, bread, sticky earthy malts, spiced fruit. Taste is well-balanced... sour, salt, bread, herbal. A very hearty, bready gose. Far more German (obviously) than the newer, American gose style. Definitely worth trying.

Dorato arancio, velata, schiuma bianchissima a grana fine di buona persistenza. Al naso lievito, erbe e coriandolo. Bevuta conferma la nota salina, lattosa, coriandolo e leggermente agrumi. Molto leggera. Note lattiche e acidule presenti ma non fastidiose. Interessante birra.

330ml bottle at home as ’Gasthaus & Gosebaruerei Bayerischer Bahnhof Original Leipziger Bier Spezialitat Gose’; 4.6%, BB July 2016, brewed with coriander and salt. Hazy orange, highly sparkling, huge foamy beige head dies down quickly. Aroma is lime and coriander, some ginger, herbal tea, quite floral, berries. Body is light, spritzy carbonation. Taste is coriander and clay, ginger and light grains, some lime squash, carbonated ice tea. Very refreshing. Makes a change to try a German gose! Tasty and worth trying. Interesting.
