This original Leipzig beer specialty lends us the name for our brewery. Gose is a regional beer specialty that was brought to Saxony-Anhalt in the year 1738. Originally Gose comes from Goslar, a small town in Lower Saxony, and the river “Gose” in this town. This beer specialty has a refreshing, slightly sour taste and is ideal for quenching your thirst. Gose is brewed with the additional ingredients lactic acid, cilantro, and salt. Gose is a top-fermented beer with 4,5 Vol. % alcohol and 10,8 % wort. You can enjoy it in different variations.

Bright, hazy golden pour, tiny head. Nose shows tart wheat, some herbal and coriander notes, and lemony sweetness. Taste was surprisingly simple and much more like a witbier that I expected from the nose. Disappointment, though I do love the style. Then again, at 4.6% if this were cheap and easily available I’d probably drink a ton during the summer.

Pours a golden dull with a fuzzy white head. S: A huge amount of sea salt, coriander, a hint of lime and a bit of banyard funk. T: Pretty damn salty with the coriander hanging in there. There is some lime, wheat with just a hint of lacto towards the end. M: Light and highly carbonated. O: Easy to drink and not short on flavor.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, cloudy gold with a large-grained, lazy, white, fast-dissipating head. Nose is salinity, yeast, a touch of wood or herbs -- the salinity is very marine. Definite salt on the front of the tongue, nicely balanced by green and an almost berry-like fruitiness; there’s minerality from the salt, some yogurty lacticity, and under it all a rich roundness. Finish is long and mineral-laden. Really tasty.

A little farmhouse ale aroma with hints of citrus precedes a cloudy light lemon-yellow pour with a thin off-white head which providing spotty lacing. The taste is somewhat subdued, but a citrus flavor dominates. Also, herbal notes combine with suggestions of sourness and salt. Medium light body and moderate carbonation. Overall, very refreshing on a very hot Texas afternoon. Would drink again.

Tap@ Bayrischer Bahnhof in Leipzig. Troebel, goudgeel, niet zoveel kraag. Op het aroma front is er niet veel loos, wat gist en zurig. Smaakt citroenzurig, wat zout in de nasmaak. Niet veel body of diepgang.

Bottle from AJ’s/ Deep gold color, cloudy, almost pastel, with a fine low head. Quite lactic nose, lemon, wheat. Very bready flavor, wheat, lactic, light lemon. A touch of salt and coriander, especially in the after taste. Very subdued and malty compared to American interpretations. Good, though, and refreshing.

Bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Atlanta Highway). Light fruity nose, with salted butter, lemon, sesame, and yeast. Light hazy pale straw color. Wheat, citric acid, lemon, some honey, and a sprinkle of salt. Thin, lightly tart in mid palate. Refreshing stuff. Coriander... well, maybe just a touch. Nice one, this.
