Commercial Description:
Name changed to Dancing Trout as of 2007. Trout Slayer is called "Crystal Weizen" in Bavaria and is the filtered version of our Bayern Hefeweizen and has a more pronounced wheat flavor and a golden color. Bayern's Trout Slayer is hopped moderately with Hallertauer Perle (Germany), the alcohol content is 5.6% alc./volume. We use malted wheat, two-row Harrington Pale and caramel malt (14° Plato o.g.). Technically speaking, you could call this beer an ale because it is top-fermented. However, this beer has been cold fermented and the maturation time is as long as lager beer (a full 28 days instead of 8-10 days like an ale).

Troutslayer originally received a 2.95 from me on 8/9/05. Quite a bland and boring beer. Quiet banana and apple. Some pear. Mild wheat feel. Did nothing for me really.

Bottle. Being a flyfisher, I was slightly dissapointed with this one. Light bodied and fairly yeasty, certatinly didn’t hit the spot on the drift boat.

pours golden. aroma is sweet grainy with some bubblegum. taste is semi-tart wheat with a good amount of malt sweetness. pretty much devoid of the standard clove and banana notes typical of this style.

Bottle. Pours light orange with a spare fizzy white head, mostly diminishing, spare lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, hay, straw), light hops (herbs, grass), average yeast (dough) with notes of banana, apple and pear. Light bodied, mineral texture, flat carbonation and a bitter finish. Short duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Thanks to Skyview for sharing (and my last hard to get style rating at that). Light grainy nose with cereal grains and honey undertones. Crisp gold color with a wheat taste. More cereal body with a wheat tinge.

Picked up 12-oz single bottle (as Trout Slayer) via trade with kyzr. Pours a clear golden amber brew with an average white head with good retention. Aroma of multi-grain bread, light flowery hops and a touch of banana esters. Taste is light bodied, lightly carbonated with a hint of dried apricots and lemon zest. Finish is light, crisp with a mild bitterness.

Thanks to skyview for sharing this. Pours a nice orangish amber coloring, with a small whitish head. Very biscuity almost sweet malt nose with hints of apricot and honey. Medium body with much the same profile as the nose nice and biscuity with honey and a little hop bite. Not really what I would think of for a Kristal, but tasty nonetheless.

Called Trout Slayer, on draught at Enzo’s Restaruant in billings, Montana. A big DMS (sulphury) aroma and flavor. A dark gold color (not very krisall) with moderate hop biterness and a pale malt flavor. Not what I’d expect for a quality German style hefeweizen. could have been a poor showing at this particular retailer.
