Commercial Description:
Name changed to Dancing Trout as of 2007. Trout Slayer is called "Crystal Weizen" in Bavaria and is the filtered version of our Bayern Hefeweizen and has a more pronounced wheat flavor and a golden color. Bayern's Trout Slayer is hopped moderately with Hallertauer Perle (Germany), the alcohol content is 5.6% alc./volume. We use malted wheat, two-row Harrington Pale and caramel malt (14° Plato o.g.). Technically speaking, you could call this beer an ale because it is top-fermented. However, this beer has been cold fermented and the maturation time is as long as lager beer (a full 28 days instead of 8-10 days like an ale).

Pretty inconsistent from bottle to bottle. I have gotten really good bottles of this and I have gotten a few that were complete diacetly bombs. Either way it is not that impressive of a beer. Some very light spice notes, mixed with a faint cereal malt body. Definitely tastes better since they have changed the name.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is of cardboard; smells like a macro. Color is deep golden, little head, slight lacing. Tastes like a tame hefeweizen. Banana esters, wheat are dominant flavors.

Draft at Finn & Porter, Missoula. Dark gold with a light head. Mildly yeasty, maybe? Hint of mild spice, but this is quite light. I asked the bartender if this was a wheat beer, he said, "No, it’s an ale." Duh. Nice sharp and clear like I’m sure it was meant to be. (#2937, 5/20/2007)

Nothing much for a head, light fruit aroma. Flavor of hops, but not too strong. Not a lot citrus nor body to this beer. Average pale. One of Bayern's weaker brews. It does sell to tourist though, because of the name.

Thanks to Pigboy for bringing me this one from a trip out of state. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy dark amber color with a small white head. The aroma was tangy with hints of caramel and floral hops. The flavor was tangy with light notes of caramel and fruity hops.

Pretty much an average Weizen. Lots of bubbles and very little head. Surprisingly it tasted a little flat. Someone mentioned a great beer with pretzels. Maybe I will try those with it next time...if there is a next time.

Bottle:Clear dark gold color with no head. Malty aromas of cloves and mild bananas - nothing great. The taste is similar to a hefe, but thinner and definitely more drinkable in my estimation. Sweet & malty. The carbonation is about average and it has a refreshing feel. But, it isn’t something I would pursue normally. Not really my style.
