CaptainCougar (4596), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 11, 2008 Bottle thanks to kyzr: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malt and a touch of earthy German hops. Body starts with about average fullness and dark caramely sweet flavor along with some mild bittering hops toward a thinner finish. Decent authenticity, but could be a little thicker. DuffMan (1838), Calgary (back from 1yr in AUS), Alberta, Canada May 8, 2008 Deep mahogany red-brown, clear, modest tan head. Low aroma of chocolate and banana, same on the palate, medium bodied, low bitterness. Decent. beerbrat99 (119), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 15, 2008 Draft. Pours a dark brown. Tan head with low head retention and low lacing. Aroma of chocolate, ash and slight spice character. Taste of roasted malts, pear brandy with some bitterness in the middle and a semi-sweet finish. The finish is also a bit hot from the noticeable alcohol. A nice doppelbock.
