3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz beer. Pours a deep mahogany color, almost no head. Aroma is very sweet, with toffee and roasted coffee notes coming through. Flavor is also very sweet up front, with a thick malt backbone. Overall a decent doppel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle split with Pruf. This is a darker doppelbock, in the vain of Celebrator. Unfortunately, it takes on too much E. European dark lager character with a syrupy dark malt character. Kind oF sweet and sticky and not well lagered. Similarly, the alcohol is a little too present. After the dunker I had really high hopes but this was just middling.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep brown color with some ruby highlights that barley shine through. Upon pouring there is a tiny fizzy white head which fades very fast to leave a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a roasted malt and grainy smell. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of some darker fruit of plum and cherry as well as a bit of a caramel and brown sugar sweetness. A little bit of an alcohol booziness is there as well producing a rather warming smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a thick and hearty doughy taste with lots of roast and a great deal of sweetness. The sweetness is initially of a caramel and molasses flavor with some other sweet flavors of a dark fruit nature of plum and fig coming to the tongue as the taste moves on further toward the end. A little bit of a graininess develops later in the flavor profile and is joined by just a hint of a warming rum taste. In the end, with the sweetness seeming to step it up even more with more brown sugar and some cherry coming to the tongue, one is left with a nice sweet and roasty warming flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The beer is quite thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower to average side overall. For the style, rum flavor, maltiness and even the sweetness the feel is very nice, bathing the tongue in all the rich flavor.
Overall – A sweeter doppelbock with lots of nice flavor. At only $5.99 (on sale) for a 6 pack this is an amazingly good buy. Very tasty and certainly a nice winter style warmer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice dark reddis brown color with an everlasting thin cap. Breast aroma with some dark fruit and brown sugar as well. Flavor much the same though a touch richer. Body medium to full, but with ample carbonation to offset. Really solid, nothing spectacular, but no faults. Underrated brew.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is malty with a lot of caramel and some slight toasting in there. Taste is slightly sweet with just a hint of some toasty bitterness in there. Ok, but nothing special.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
From notes verbatim on 11/27/10
A: Little/no foam on this one. Deep brown easily transferred by light making a cherry red hue. Excellent clarity.
S: Sweet rye bread with a hint of nutmeg/allspice. Okay.
T: ABV is poorly addressed here. Boozy and warm with toasty flavor.
M: Very light and flat for a Doppelbock IMO.
D: Good for a pint, not much more.

Out of the bottle from Uptown. Pours very dark, almost black. Smells malty and slightly sour.
Slight taste of roasted malts. Very strong, but doesn’t taste like it. Very good doppelbock.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 ounce bottle from a sampler and a 6 pack. Pours brown red with a quarter inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, fruit, raisin, and some warming alcohol. Similar aroma. The body is full and creamy. Very easy to drink and quite satisfying considering the alcohol content.
