12 ounce bottle from a sampler and a 6 pack. Pours brown red with a quarter inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, fruit, raisin, and some warming alcohol. Similar aroma. The body is full and creamy. Very easy to drink and quite satisfying considering the alcohol content.

12oz bottle courtesy of IBrew2or3. Cheers, Dave! Pours a medium brown with red highlights. Nose is dark malts, overripe cherries, prunes, slight black licorice, slight smoke, and dates. Flavor is cherries and prunes up front followed by dates and slight smoke in the mid lingering into the finish. Lingering dates and smoke in the finish. Really interesting doppel.

12oz bottle pours an impressive deep ruby red with mahogany hues and quarter inch tan head. The aroma blooms with caramel candy, dates, prunes and winter spiced cookies. Cool. The taste is similar as caramel mixes with blueberry jam, prune notes and a bit of dates along with some winter spiciness along the edges. This has a nice rich flavor that I’m rather enjoying.

12 oz. bottle from the PCC in Fremont. Dark, dark brown appearance, with very little, to no head. Molasses aroma, with an EXTREMELY SUBTLE smoke aroma. Touch of banana fruitiness in there, as well; this is probably coming from the yeast. Decent aroma, but nothing mind-blowing. Kind of a funky molasses flavor. Banana and a touch of yeast hitting my taste buds. The thick, and yet silky, texture is quite nice. Decent stuff here, but nothing exceptional.

12 oz beer. Pours a deep mahogany color, almost no head. Aroma is very sweet, with toffee and roasted coffee notes coming through. Flavor is also very sweet up front, with a thick malt backbone. Overall a decent doppel.

Bottle. Clear ruby red color/ tan head. Grass, floral, earthy molasses, dark raison aromas. Medium to full bodied with soft co2. Yeasty dark bread, molasses, raison, caramel lagered flavors--good.

Bottle:   Deep garnet in color, moderate dark beige head, frothy, a few rings of lacing.   Bready nose, slight dark pitted fruit, some raisin and fig.   Bready start, soft sweet maltiness, the dark pitted fruit is very minor.   Reminds me of a light Dubbel.   Not as bockish as I would have thought, but then again this is an American made example.   The 8% ABV seems well hidden.   A little bit of burnt caramel on the exit.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   A little light for a Doppelbock, but what is there is somewhat flavorful and clean.   Better than I was thinking, even if not totally what I would consider a Doppelbock.

This is a very drinkable dark beer. High in alcohol content so beware! Fantastic beer to help a retail manager relax after long December days!

Pours dark brown with little head that dissipates quickly. More full bodied beer. Tastes slightly sweet with notes of brown sugar, molasses and a little coffee. Alcohol is hidden pretty well. Definitely a strong, malty beer.

Bottle served in a dimpled mug. Pours dark cola in color. No head, no lace. Nose of sweet dates, molasses, brown sugar, and fig aroma and flavor. Sweet flavor. Medium body, decent carbonation, oily-slick texture, and a sticky malt finish. The alcohol is well hidden. A rich yet smooth doppelbock.
