17thfloor (440), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Updated: May 8, 2008Pours dark ruby amber with a thin whispy white head. Sweet aroma of rich caramel malt. Rich sweet caramel malt, some barley flavor, sweet raisins, faint touch of hops, a little bit dark. Might be a little bit oxidized... Medium body, some crisp carbonation and a little bit sticky. greenhorn1 (325), Eugene, Oregon, USA May 1, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber with a slight red hue, small head. Aroma is sweet malts. Flavor is roasty and some breadiness, with a nice sweetness. Nice hop balance. Overall, it taste like a light German lager. Decent. spikester (242), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 18, 2008 Pours dark red-amber with a minor head and lacing. Aroma is deep and resinous. For a red ale this is well done. Hops are subdued and it’s well balanced. This is what Killians Red wished it was. Another fine craft beer from Montana. Haven’t had a bad one yet. Either it’s the water or they have few distractions! truegen (123), Puyallup, Washington, USA Mar 23, 2008 12oz. bottle. Muted bronze appearance, with a good head on the pour, which then dissolves rapidly to a light ring. It has a plum/currant/fruit sweet aroma, with just a hint of breadiness. The taste follows the nose pretty straight. Not much hoppiness in this brew, which perhaps makes the malty sweetness a little too prominent. There’s an astringent effect on the tongue that I find intriguing. Not a typical red. RSRIZZO (904), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Mar 8, 2008 Aroma is very faint with just a hint of malt to it. Color is amber with a slight haze, good carbonation and a very thin head. Taste is light and German. Starting with a light body it goes down smooth with a clean feel. Finish is a mild sweet malt flavor with an easy hop taste and very mellow bitterness. After taste is a very German beer like taste, so much so that if I didn’t know this was brewed in Montana I would have thought it was imported. I am not a big fan of German style brews so I don’t really like this but its not a bad beer.
