First tried at the brewery/pub in Missoula, MT during the first Oktoberfest in 1988. Pours darker than most would consider for an Oktoberfest/Marzen, but that is the more traditional style from many, many years ago. Thick rich and malty, but not sweet like contemporary watery versions of the style. Not too strong at 6% ABV, so you can enjoy a few at a fest session. Quite good.

Bottle thanks to swalden28. Poured deep amber/brown with an off white head. Aroma was raisin, brown sugar, caramel, and earthy notes. Flavor was pretty much the same with a medium body and low carbonation. Odd o fest.

Pours dark red/copper with a thin beige head. Malty caramel flavor, with a cherry and sweet bread finish. Light on the hops, just enough to keep it from being cloying. Long roasty caramel finish. Very rich oktoberfest beer, while not one you could probably drink a few steins of without feeling totally full, still a nice beer.

hoptimist (99) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 4, 2010
Rich and clean malt aroma with a hint of caramel. Deep amber orange color with great clarity and a decent off white head. Medium malt sweetness with a light hop bitterness to balance. Medium body with a creamy texture, medium carbonation and a medium length finish that leans toward the malts. Smooth and rich.

Bottle served in a dimpled mug. 2010 edition. Pours murky dark brown with orange hues. Minimal head and lacing. Shame about that. Maybe pour this one closer to room temp. Aromatic nose of fruitcake, Frankfurt bread pudding, sweaty sock funk, and soft molasses sweetness. Mildly sweet flavor. Light-medium body, average carbonation. Malty finish for a malt focused brew. Good stuff.

brown with a cream short lived head. nose is sweet malts, roast, graham cracker, and dough. easy on the palate, heavy roast at first, followed by rich malts, dough, and caramel. roasty finish as well.

DARK. Very nice beer in this it’s 2005 incarnation, but closer to a bock in character than Octoberfest. Dark brown, smooth munich and vienna malt flavor, rich, yet adequately dry in the finish. Getting harder a nd harder to find a good fresh lager around Octoberfest time, this one will certainly do...

Picked up a six pack of the 2008 batch in Missoula today. Like past batches, it is a good, all around bock/brown beer. Has some sweetness/maltiness. A very drinkable beer that I like a lot.
