2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
22oz bottle. Pours clear dark brown, rubyish-brown in the light, with basically no head but a fizzy tan halo. Aroma is syrupy caramel. Flavor is diacetyl, some sweetness, acidic, really quite awful. Very oily; very thin. Yuck.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Cannot believe the poor reviews on this one -- this beer is a STUNNING brown ale, and perhaps my favorite. Nuttiness on the nose carries through with dominance in taste. Chewy malt base, and some spiciness to round things out. Solid A in my book.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A decent, but kind of empty tasting beer. Pours a nice black with a tan head, and a good amount of sediment. Smells awesome, like vanilla, cinnamon and gingerbread. After the smell, you'd expect the taste to be as interesting, but sadly, it falls a bit flat. Starts off smoky, but then there is nothing past that. A hint of molasses, but almost watery after the initial bite. Easy drinking beer. Had in the bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
~Light bready roast aroma with a hefty dose of caramel and chocolate. Slight buttery diacetyl.
~Pours a dark brown with reddish tints. lasting off white small creamy head.
~Bready caramel flavor with roast and chocolate. Slight sourness in a good way. Somewhat watery.
~medium bodied, slight slickness, medium CO2, roasty bready finish.
~Decent brew. Not much else to say about it. Would want to move on to something else after drinking this one.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Aaron’s. Thanks man, I think. Pour is murky brown with a small cream-colored head. Roasty, bready, light coffee, earthy, vegetal, and grassy aroma. Taste is cocoa, bready, malty, slightly tangy, espresso, graham crackers, and weird tang. Light body with high carbonation. Meh.

Bottle @ home, via some trade. Pours a reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Spicy minty, dark fruity, mild chocolate, a bit piney aroma. Tangy cherry garbage flavor with a hint of meat drippings.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle: caramel brown with medium-sized off white head. Getting a light caramel aroma. Flavor has a tartness with some caramel and chocolate. Ok flavor, not much there however.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Dark brown color, frothy, oily feel, medium body, heavy cloying sweetness, medium sourness. I wish there was a little more bitterness. I rarely throw out beer but I couldn’t finish this one. I couldn’t get over the sourness combined with the hint of rancid flavor. I told myself I was imagining the rancid, meaty flavor but it kept coming back. I tossed out half. It had some interesting flavors too. Certainly wasn’t a boring light beer. But won’t be drinking this one again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from BevMo, Sacramento. Pours near black with a rich tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a sour chocolate and treacle flavor. I don’t think the sour was intentional, but it might have actually made the beer a little better.

After two attempts, I’m done with Bayhawk. Nothing more to report. Not worthy of further explanation at this time.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Hollingshead: Poured with a thick fluffy topping of head while the liquid is a dark brown with some sediment observed. Aroma is a lively juiced up hoppy almost pale ale like smell that really surprises me and only makes me wish more brown ales could smell this good. Too bad the flavor isn’t as good as the nose lead me to believe, so I feel really tricked. The flavor is tart and flat with most of the carbonation lost and unfortunately there was no bottle date or year on my bottle. First time ever seeing a bottle of this stuff, but if I could find a fresher bottler of this stuff from the tap I’m sure I’d like it much more.
