2.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 1/20 DCJack (181) - USA - DEC 3, 2011
Whoa. This beer is seriously effed up. The first bottle exploded when I opened it and sprayed foam everywhere. I called the owner (his number is on the website) and told him what happened. He said come by the brewery and get a new bottle.
Right.
I bought a second bottle a month later thinking maybe they’d fixed the problem. Not.
Foam all the way. I opened the bottle a crack 10 minutes ago. Its still foaming.
Don’t know how they are effing up this beer but it is seriously messed up.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 MadRobin (166) - Silver Spring, USA - MAY 24, 2012
Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Foam erupted rudely from bottle upon opening and continued to erupt even after pouring out a pint glass full of foam. Poured out yet another glass of foam and this thing is still erupting. Glad I was near the sink.
Head consumed entire glass when poured. Once things settled enough, I was able to get a glass containing an opaque, black brown liquid with a 3 inch brown head and very good lacing.
Aroma of charred cocoa and partially burned musty wood.
Taste of musty charcoal and bitter overroasted chocolate with a sweetness coming from parts unknown and a somewhat medicinal aftertaste. Except for the lack of any coffee flavor, this beer reminds me of coffee made by burning cheap beans in an effort to get a modicum of flavor out of them.
Medium body with explosive carbonation that becomes flat when it eventually exhausts itself. Mouthfeel is rather nice when there is some carbonation left. Not so when it is flat.
As much as I disliked this beer, it does have promise. I appreciate experimenting and trying to make a stout with a little more to it. Too bad this one did not work.
This is Baying Hound's first year. I'll give them a chance to adjust.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Derek881 (726) - Frederick, Maryland, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Poured this beer from a large bottle into a trumpet style glass. The beer had a full black color with a gigantic, over-the-top dark tan head that was very foamy and bubbly and had long retention, but light cling and lacing. The aroma was a subtle toasty chocolate malt mixed with a bit of coffee and some grainy hops. The taste had a sweet chocolate flavor initially, but quickly gave way to a strong grainy bitterness. It was a watery but still thick beer with a smooth mouthfeel, which was fairly dry with average carbonation.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mansquito (1809) - washington, Washington DC, USA - APR 16, 2012
Tap at the brewery: Pours a dark color with a large brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, hops, and chocolate. Nice roasted malt bitterness, but still a pleasant and easy-drinking mouthfeel. Everything is very well-balanced. Not much sweetness. Very robust.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 CaptainCougar (6833) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - FEB 28, 2012
22oz bottle: pours highly carbonated froth of beige foam eventually settling down into a mostly opaque black with dark mahogany edges. Has a dry roasted malty nose with some piny hops and a touch of band-aids. Taste follows suit with little sweetness and lots of roasted and black malts along with some coriander before a dry bitter and earthy finish. Has some acetone flaws that I’m not very fond of, although not as strong as their Sarvara. Hopefully they can remedy these things.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 JDBaker11058 (677) - Maryland, USA - JAN 7, 2012
Appearance: near black with a rich, foamy and thick dark tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma: light, but with roasty dark malts and coffee, some bitter chocolate. Taste: roasty and smooth coffee, with strong flavors of very dark, intense bitter chocolate and dark brown bread. Finish: smooth, quickly turning dry, with lingering roasty, bittersweet chocolate and piney, resinous hops coming out to play. Notes: This is a simple stout done very well. Palate is smooth and creamy without being too thick. Flavors are well-balanced, with bittersweet chocolate leading the pack. Shared a bomber with Tony at Urban Barbecue on Bauer drive in Rockville.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with thick tan head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts and coffee. Taste matches the nose with the same roasted malt and coffee flavors. Great mouthfeel with the appropriate amount of carbonation. Finish is dry with a lingering dark chocolate aftertaste.

Aroma is dark roast and chocolate malt, light coffee, faint burnt notes, leather yeast, minty and earthy hops with dark fruity esters. Flavor is mildly bitter chocolate and dark malt with dark fruits, leather yeast, medium hops and a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dbarnold (674) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - NOV 28, 2011
Mild relatively easy to drink stout...dry and slightly bitter. I usually drink imperial stouts, not regulars, so this had less depth of flavor than I’m used to, but I still enjoyed it.
