COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to Dorothy L. Sayers’ fictional detective and Wimsey the Bloodhound’s namesake. Both the sleuth and the hound possess a nose for getting to the bottom of things. As with our other ales, this mild is made with only the finest malts and hops, never filtered, and is bottle conditioned. Best served in a proper pint glass.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a dark orange with a frothy head of off white foam. The nose has a little fruitiness, a little rotten egg, and a slight spiced note. Floral then bitter then bready on the tongue. Odd perfume notes come out after a couple minutes. It has a weird lingering bitterness with a light to medium body and bristling carbonation. The finish is dry, long, and lightly bitter. Is a 6% beer really a mild? I don’t think so but these days a name is just a name. It’s a little quizzical but not terrible.

Bomber from Capital Beer and Wine in Bethesda, MD, opened 6/13/11. Someone gets a big old FAIL in the quality control department, as I just cleaned about half of this one off my floor. Hazy, murky orange color with, obviously, a large head. Aroma of spicy and peppery hops, caramel and a bit of band-aid. The taste is citrus hops and caramel. Spicy hop finish. Medium bodied.

Chevy Chase Wine and Liquors, DC 650ml ($6): I open all bottles with my lighter and when I opened this up, the cap flew up and made my face bleed. The bottle immediately started frothing over with tons of brownish head. The body pours a mud brown color and looks like what a mild ale should look like. Aroma is a smorgasbord of scents. There is some caramel malt, some citrusy hops, something I won’t quite call funk, and a few other things that are hard to pinpoint. Taste is pretty unique. It has a medicinal aspect, but kind of in a good way. Slightly sweet. Has a slightly off metallic finish. Some candyish notes and a whole lot of caramel. I like it, and I think I’ll visit the brewer and sample some more of his beers.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy off-white head, medium-short retention with fair to light lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, straw, meal), average hops (earthy, herbal), and light esters (fruity) with notes of wet leaves. Flavor is average malt (bread, straw, meal), average hops (earthy, herbal), and light esters (fruity) with notes of wet leaves; bitter minty hops at the end. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation with a dry finish.

medium brown with reasonable white head. nose of herbal hops. firm bitterness before low crystal malt and perhaps some toasted malt before a fair degree of herbal hops. to call this a mild is undeniably a misnomer. the english ingredients likely make it a decent bitter

Bought this one right from the brewer himself at the brewery. The color is a deep bronze. The head is a good with nice lacing. The aroma is orange with a hint of hay in the background. Taste is mildly bitter and the brew finishes with a mild metallic aftertaste. A decent solid ale that reminds me of my home brews.

Bottle from Gilly’s. Pours cloudy amber, small off white head that settles quickly and leaves scant lacing. Aroma of caramel and dark bread, subtle bubblegum. Taste is lightly spiced toast. Nice body for a mild. Tasty stuff. Worth watching this brewery.
