Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with ruby highlights, a medium fizzy beige head, medium retention with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel), average hops (pine, earthy, grassy), and average esters (fruity) with notes of dates. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a dry and biting finish.

Pours a transparent deep dark mahogany with a full-lacing froth of light beige head. Has a sweet fresh hoppy nose with some dark malts and a touch of soapiness. Starts with good chewy sweet dark malty body with some floral resiny hoppy character and some soapy bitter off-flavors before a drier roasty finish. A decent concept, but could use a little work.

22 ounce bottle from Capital Wines in Bethesda, MD, opened 7/8/11. I won’t late the godawful name affect my rating. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus and floral hops. The taste is floral hops, some citrus, a bit of chocolate and caramel. Medium bodied.

651mL. The pour is a deep brown with a healthy, khaki head. Nice retention and lace. Nose is lavender soap, lemon, flowers, rye. Taste is hugely soapy, massive shower gel, spicy rye. As it warms the soap dies down and leave some spicy rye and tart lemon. Not bad but certainly has some weird stuff going on with it that I am not so sure about.

Clearish brown body with a large soapy tan head. Aroma of very strong, pungent hoppy notes with a touch of soap, earth, flowers and more hop pellets. Medium-bodied; Grassy, floral hop note with some malt, a little sweetness, a light fruitiness and more hop pellets (not full flowers) noticeable here. Aftertaste is almost bubble-gummy hop pellet notes with some sweetness, some earth, but mainly this overly cloying, sweet, hop pellet flavour that just detracts from the overall experience. Overall, an okay brown if that. The smell lures you in, and one sip and those distinct hop pellet flavour that imparts on the whole of the beer make it uninteresting. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington DC on 28-October-2011 for US$5.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 29-March-2012.

22oz bottle. Chunky brown, a hint of orange. Patchy, semi oily head. Bitter burnt choco aroma, not unlike a Black IPA. Thick and resinous, specialty malt overload. A good beer, enjoyable enough. Some orange citrus tones under the chocolate. Nice hoppy Brown Ale.

chestnut body, thin cream head. Nose is metal, cherry, light malt. Malty chocolate, bit earthy and rubbery, washed out, short, lightly toasty finish.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with a huge light tan head. Aroma of caramel malts with some light hops too. Flavor of light fruit, caramel, and some floral hops at the finish. Not bad.
