COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alt-style Schwarzbier
On our grandparents’ farm, our grandmother would brew a grègue of café noir every morning for our grandfather’s pre-dawn breakfast. At the end of each week, after the obligatory Sunday dinner, she would brew numerous pots of it. Each and every one of the adults would then sip demitasses of the strong black coffee, laughing loudly and speaking French even louder.

We wanted to create a beer that paid homage to what café noir meant to our French speaking ancestors. Café noir was more than a cup of coffee – its presence conveyed love and appreciation, and expressed a cheerful welcome.

We use specially roasted German malts and select American hops which provide our LA-31 Bière Noire a small bite of noble bitterness and a dry, French roasted coffee flavor. It goes great with grilled steaks, hamburgers, or sausage po-boys, any spicy blackened Cajun dish, or a dinner table surrounded by those you most cherish.

À votre santé.

Aroma is dark/roasted malts and coffee. The flavor is similar to the aroma with an acidic/slightly tart finish.

This beer pours a dark brown color with amber around the edges, and a medium foamy off-white head that recedes steadily to a wispy film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and slight hops. Light-bodied with a roasty malt and coffee character, and mild hops in the background. The finish is sweet with a short mild coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Black, frothy, tan foam, medium bitterness, light sweetness, medium body, oily feel, average carbonation, & abrupt finish.

Very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of cocoa and roast. Tastes like roasted malt with some coffee and dark chocolate. Thinnish medium bodied with average carbonation. Not bad, a little thin for a porter, but my impression is that it doesn’t claim to be one.

Nice creamy head. Delicious nutty malty flavors. Slight end flavor of betel nut.

Nice label. Lightly sweet, humid pour. A toasty, acidic, dark concoction. Surprisingly lite bodied. A porter meets...something. A black IPA joined with a lemon saison? this wouldn’t be for everyone, but I liked the citrusy acidity.

Deep and dark brown colour. Roasted malt and coffee aroma. Same with the taste with a hint if earthiness.

12oz bottle. Burgundy black body, big foamy beige head. Kind of has a slight infected twang. The flavors are OK, but there something odd an sugary about the body. Pretty weak offering. Brown chocolate, caramel.

Poured a dark brown color from the bottle with aromas of roast, light coffee, light dark fruit and some earth. Flavors matched the aromas the best beer out of the group I got, thanks to my Mom who bought me the mixed pack.

Bottle. Pours clear black with a medium frothy off-white head that quickly left with no lacing. Aroma is dates, plum, and chocolate malt with earthy hops and lots of coffee. Flavor is coffee dominant with lightly tart dark malt with light hops and bitterness and a dry finish. This coffee seemed odd. Medium body and carbonation.
