LA-31 Bière Pâle is crafted with imported Belgian malts and American hops and yeast. This is a distinct new style of beer - no one else in the country makes anything like it. LA-31 Bière Pâle is traditionally brewed ale; it is bronze colored and has a biscuity malt center. The beer has herbal hop flavors and a gentle, mellow bitterness. This full flavored beer is crafted to enhance the unique cuisine and lifestyle of South Louisiana.

12 oz bottle at French 75 (New Orleans, LA). Decided on this after a couple cocktails. Pours a gently hazed golden amber hue, a bit darker and dulled into the middle. Frothy offwhite head is a mellow layer, small lacing and stick around. Aromas are earthy bitterness, florals and grass meet a gentle waft of pine, bready malts, rosehips, dough, and straw. Initial is a soft lighter body, supporting bready malts, cereal grain meet a decent hop character, earthy and pine elements are the focus here shying away from any sort of citrusy or fruity bite. A gentle bready malt middle, firmer bitterness returns as we hit the backend, earthy and a bit boring but bitter enough to stay away from any sort of mushy, malty, flabby Pale. Instead what you have here is a solid drinker, a bit of a boring hop profile with gentle maltiness, fair drinkability. Not bad.

355 ml bottle. Pours a pale amber colour with a medium beige head. Aroma is a bit weird - with some malts and bread. Taste is better - with some hops, malts. Better in the mouth than in the nose!

On tap in Brookhaven GA. Flavor Near equal malt/hop balance. Rather malty for style although the hops come out in the finish and aftertaste. O. More like a brown ale than an APA. Well crafted if unexceptional.

When I get pale beers from Louisiana, I’m expecting a thirst-quenching beer that doesn’t inspire. But it’s hot in Louisiana, and you sort of need that. This beer takes the hop bite up just a bit. It’s not anything that’s going to blow you away, but it doesn’t shy away from being different, and I appreciate that.
