Very interesting first of all. Had a sample at B-Dubs in Meridian, Mississippi. Aroma of whiskey, smoke, malt. Flavor is alcohol, egg?, smokey malt. Complex. Light body. Really odd but good.

A very interesting beer. I’ve had this on two occasions. People either love smoked beers or veer away from them. They are beginning to grow on me. When I first sipped this, I was unsure, but then as I drank more of it, I really started to appreciate it. Nice to have every once in a while. Good in a rotation of beers you keep around.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Clear amber. Smoky aroma, slightly meaty, with mild fruitiness and a bit of caramel. Sweetish flavor, malty and caramelly, with nice smokiness, meaty and slightly ashy. Medium-bodied. Decent.

FROM NOTES: June 27,’12 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. HOLY SMOKE BOMB!!! Sweet nose with faint notes of apricots and figs, and a sharp roasted note as well. Has a startling astringent flavor that is extremely confusing. A fairly sweet and malty taste overall. The overall texture is on the thick side of medium-bodied, with a lasting astringent quality. One was PLENTY for me, but I’m not wild about the style.

Dark orange pour from draft at kingfish in New Orleans. Very smokey. Carmel and nutty notes too but the smokey over powers everything

The beer has a very light amber color to it that is slightly hazy. The beer has very little head to it and no lacing on the glass. The beer has a definite charred wood smokey scent to it that disappates to a mild wheat smell. The beer tastes okay with a definite wheat taste up front but then gives away to a smokey aftertaste. The mouthfeel is somewhat weak with a smokey residue lingering around and the beer is poorly carbonated. Overall, this is definitely a smoked beer but offers very little else in way of taste or quality.

Bayou Teche Boucanee’ has a very thick, foamy, cream-colored head, a clear, bubbly, copper appearance, and slight lacing left behind. The aroma is of an overriding smokiness with an undercurrent of sweetness and wheat bread. Taste is of wood smoke, caramel, sugar, and a touch of bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Bayou Teche Boucanee’ finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and semi-dry. Overall, it’s very smoky and not like a wheat beer. I think it is good and interesting. RJT
