Hazy amber beer, no real head. Tangy orange and orange peel. A little smoke provides an odd juxtaposition! Dry finish. Alright!

Lightly smoky aroma. Mid gold, small head. More wooly in its taste. Finish is very fishy. Dull at best, but actually messed up if I’m cynical.

Brown pour, beige head. Aroma of smoke, caramel, herbal notes, bready notes. Flavor is smoke, odd herbal flavors dont meld all to well with the beer. Messy. Meh.

Bottle... Pours a clear, beautiful copper color with a small, quickly-vanishing, white head. The nose delivers fireplace smoke, caramel and spicy grains. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is of caramel interwoven with moderate campfire smoke. Mildly sweet, grassy finish. I have to go against the grain here. I dig this beer. Bottle courtesy of garmonbozia!

Cask (gravity dispense) at Great British Beer Festival, day 4 on 5 August 2011. Bit of a weird one really. Fairly pale amber colour. Smoke is quite apparent in the aroma and flavour but there wasn’t really much else going on. Not much depth or body. Not enough presence to provide a counterpoint to the smoke for me. So it came over as a bit one-dimensional with the underlying beer being somewhat submerged. Apparently it’s a wheat beer underneath but I wouldn’t have guessed and that seems a slightly strange combination with the smoke (unless, of course, you start off with a gutsy one).
