Cask at The Blue Mugge, Leek. A clear deep amber colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, hedgerow fruits, some cherry, slight yeast, a little apple and subtle earthy hops. Taste of caramel, chocolate, hedgerow fruits, slight cherry, a little biscuit, subtle orange and spicy, earthy hops. Light bodied but a grainy texture. A lingering, yeasty and a touch of grassy bitterness in the finish. A nice, sessionable, flavourful bitter. Weird texture but decent.

Tasted this in Tennent’s Bar, Glasgow on the 7th December 2015. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale copper in colour with a thick creamy white head. Malty aroma with warm yeasty bread notes present. Good lacing and creamy mouthfeel. Mixed malts give a moist maltloaf base with strong flavours of tart redcurrant fruit and oak cask evident. Strong bitter hop resins give a harsh metallic tang in the long aftertaste. Finish is malty with biscuit overtones and again dry oak cask flavours present in the mouth. A very poor session bitter and one to avoid.

Cask at The Railway, Richmond as ’Bays Topsail’. Dark orange, clear, still, small foamy white head. Aroma is bready, tangerine, Granny Smith. Body is medium, smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is bread crusts, Danish pastry, touch of citrus with a pleasant bitterness. A tasty, rounded bitter. Could drink many pints. Good balance.

Appearance - deep copper with a nicely proportioned head.
Nose - biscuits going into ginger cake.
Taste - toffee and biscuit. Some spice.
Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet biscuity texture and a long dry finish.
Overall - interesting and slightly challenging bitter.

Cask, Le Bistro Pierre, Torquay, 05/09/14. Handsome auburn with a persistent dense lacing collar. Nose of pine needle, forest floor, soapy and peachy orange hop. Very decent rounded orange and pine hop balanced with digestive biscuit-type malt with sprinkles of milk chocolate. Hints of crushed hazelnut, Ovaltine and orange-hinting hop tang. Pick of the local shit.
