1. Cask Stillage at the Memorial Hall, Northwich 20/09/2003
Dark coloured mild that’s velvety smooth on the palate. Pleasant roast malt finish.
2. Cask Handpump at the Marble Arch Inn, Manchester 09/04/2004
Black smooth and slightly fruity. Some dryness in a slightly bitter lasting roast finish.

[Cask conditioned] A rather full bodied and tasty mild ale. It's quite complex with some very nice smoked notes.

Cask@GBBF2007. Dark amber colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is strong roasted chocolate and berryish hops. Flavour is roasted malts, some leather and much wood. Refreshing and pleasant.

Cask, ’The Joy of Six’ Merchantfest ’08, Rugby. Again, was given this blind and declared it a stout between 4-5% ABV. Striking pitch/tan looks, with lace. Pungent bonfire snout. Charcoal smokiness, coffee granules, roast and chocolate nudging towards stout all the way, but light and sessionable. Really tasty, BOTFSF.....

Aroma is a bit minimal, however nicely balanced roasted chocolate malt is key. Taste is similarly roasted malt with chocolate having a good amount of say towards the end and a good full mouthfeel in a lightly sweet finish.

A Mes rate:
Gravicask up the Junction. Smoke, tobacco and some unbrewed malt in the aroma. Black colour just as I like it. Lovely smoked malt in the mouth with a nice liquorice and rubber character. Great palate for a mild (sod it, I’m upping it to a 4). A lovely mild with plenty of chracter.

Cask (handpump) at GBBF, August 2006. Although this is probably Bazens’ best known beer, it had somehow passed me by until now. Nearly black, but probably more like a very dark red on close inspection. Appealing aroma of burnt malt with touches of roasted coffee beans. More roast malt in the flavour. Fairly dry and a little more bitter than the norm for a mild. Plenty of flavour and character. A very good mild.

Half pint gravity fed at the Battersea Beer Festival, dark with ruby tints and a bubbly tan head. A touch of smokiness to a light aroma. Smokey bacon flavour on a light and smooth palate - maybe a touch watery, but still excellent.
