4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 ForaThat (10) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - AUG 3, 2006
Hi ,
I have read most of the reviews for this wonderful beer, Most reviews incorrectly refer to it as a Pilsner. It is not! It is a Bohemian Lager from Budweis. It is the origanal Budwiser Beer. I know alot of you think that Budvar/ Czechvar is but here is the Skinny. Budweiser Burgerbrau founded 1795 and first Brewed Budweiser in Budweis in 1802. AB Budweiser first brewed in St Louis in1876 then Budvar / Czechvar 1895! They were the last kid on the Block. But the beer it self is dark golden with light carbonation a perfect balance of malt and hop ( Not as many IBUs as a pilsner ) . Its a classic Bohemian Lager and the insperation for the American style ( But I think the yanks got it wrong! ) Also this is a Independent brewery that brews in the traditional manner, four ingrediants natural fermentation and sixty days lagering the way it was done 200 years ago. I mention this as this practice has become rare. Most European brewerys are owned by large brewing cartels that care more about bottom line profits not tradition. Most european lagers are know High gravity brews that are watered down after fermentation, lagering has been cut down dramaticly to a few weeks not the old standard of 60 days. And this is still brewed in Budweis! lots of beers have lost there tradtional homes and are being brewed elsewhere , Boddingtons ,Pilsner Urquel , Hoegarten etc because of cheaper labour! Sorry to go off in a tangent about this but open up a Budweiser Burgerbrau and the now popular Stella. The BB will knock the spots of it. .....................Hats off to a world classic Budweiser Burgerbrau, still brewed as it was in Budweis, and independent from the big brewing cartels....A classic example!!
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Kinz (2971) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - AUG 13, 2005
Draft at Capital Ale House. I’m about 99% certain this is the right beer, as it is the only Czech Burgerbrau I could find. Fresh, just tapped, this was an amazing beer. Medium gold, hint of bronze, pillow head. Soft floral nose. Unbelievably soft malts, silky smooth palate. Light floral and spice finish. This was a spectacular, yet subtle beer. I don’t think it would have a prayer in a bottle.

US import: Lightly hazy orange-yellow with a thin white head. Deep yeast and malt aroma. Rich and malty, this has a nice little Saazy swirl to go with it. Excellent poster child for the style. Would go excellent with any richly gravied central European entree.

Draft, Baja Bean, Staunton VA. Light gold color with white head. Somewhat sour malty nose, like applejuice, with floral and citrus notes as well. Flavor was smooth light malt, very fresh tasting, with a hint of fruity/juicy sourness and a pleasantly light finish. Very tasty.
