22oz, black waxed bottle, from grape & gourmet. i’ve been waiting patiently for this brew to be released and it was worth it. pours a deep, hazy, russet-amber that sits imposingly in the glass topped by a creamy, khaki head that leaves thick sheets of lace. aroma is incredible with huge notes of vanilla cake, pralines, toffee candies, toasted coconut, and oak backed by figs, raisin bread, and boozy bourbon. flavor is right up there with some of the best barrel aged barleywines i’ve tasted with an assault of sweet toffee, coconut cream pie, toasted oak, caramel, and sweet malts up front that transition seamlessly to sweet, dried fruits, earthy hops, warming bourbon, and a hint of spice on the back end with a long, lingering finish of vanilla and oak. palate is full bodied, chewy, and rich without being overly sticky or sweet owing to its great balance. overall, this is by far and away Beach Brewing’s best offering yet and it could certainly hold its own with the hyped barleywines of the world. great job, guys!

22 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with beige froth. Nose is caramel, whiskey and raisin. Medium body with an alcohol tang. Taste is whiskey, caramel and grapefruit peel. Too much of the barrel.

22oz bottle, thanks MrChopin! Poured a red/amber color with a off-white, wispy head. Aroma is sweet malts, with penty of bourbon notes, some chocolate notes, and a touch of dried fruits. Alcohol is pretty well masked in this particular one.

translucent red-sepia, thin white collar. Cheesy nose is light roast and chocolate, thin and hot with paint thinner, some caramel and molasses adds depth a la JW Lees. Flavor is chocolate and oxidation up front, mid is dead, papery with caramel hints, stinging sugar shoots in and out,

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2013 Shared by MrChopin. Thanks Kevin. The beer is copper hued with a small tan collar. Nice aroma of malt, toffee, brown sugar. Nice flavor as well. Medium bodied with a prominent brown sugar character. Light spice. Sweetness is mild and never cloying. A delightful sipper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

651mL black wax from the brewery for $15. Pours a clear deep red. Weaker yellowish foam. Nose is malted milk balls, richer buttery bourbon, no sweet tomato paste, buttery chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate, bitter, roasty. Palate is a bit soapy, thinner. Decent, not worth the price tag. Barrel was impressive. Base beer unimpressive.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, toasted malt and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Mostly clear dark red color, with a brown tint. Minimal bubbly khaki head. Good dots of lace. Nice whiskey woody vanilla nose. Bigger body. Light, creamy carbonation. Sweet taste. Alcohol is noticeable, no bite or burn, but a little harsh in the finish. Some licorice, light chocolate malt, some bitter dark chocolate. Complex, but the bite to flavor ratio is a little harsh for me. Nice long aftertaste with which to enjoy the complexities, though

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured copperish brown with a khaki head. Nice drinking and smooth for the higher ABV. Vanilla and pastry-like breadiness. Oak and whiskey, good amount of wood flavor with a strong maltiness and sweetness, and even some bitterness. Dark and toasted sugars added a nice complexity.

Clear reddish brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of molasses, soy sauce, vanilla, bourbon, soaked prunes, caramel and burned sugar. Sweet flavour, light bitterness, vanilla, molasses and dried fruits. Finish molasses, coconut and bourbon.
Very nice brew.
