Tap at the brewery. Hazy orange pour with massive lacing. Really nice tangerine nose, fresh citrus hops. Taste is very bitter, rindy, dusty, dry. No cheese or stale candies. Straightforward DIPA that is not too cloying/sticky or cheesy/stale. Perhaps too dry in the palate/dusty. Fiancé rating : 3.7
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Foxbush (990) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 9, 2012
Growler at the brewery This was purchased to enjoy with crabs from Wickers Crab Pot Seafood in Cheasapeake and our son. The color was a clear copper with large bubbles in the head. The aroma was of resinous pine. The pleasant bitterness dominated the ale. The alcohol was well disguised. The cabonation was soft but the finish was smooth with a nice lingering bitterness. When at the Beach visit this small brewery. Truly they started in their home and now have a thriving brewery. Kristen MacDonald was hostess and could not have been nicer.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Thorpe429 (4844) - , Illinois, USA - JUN 12, 2012
Bottle thanks to Drake. Served in a mini snifter. Pours a clear orange color with a white head and some lacing. The nose carries some faint citrus and earthy-pine hops with a bit of grain behind that. Hops aren’t too powerful. Flavor has an odd graininess that I didn’t quite care for. As it warmed it seemed like it may have been oxidation. Citrus hops and some bready malt. Medium body with a decent kick of hop bitterness. Not something that I would seek out again.

gold-amber, thin white ring remains. Nose is light pumpkin spice, heavy pine earth and mango. Old caramel earthy flavor, lingering paper and cardboard oxidation.

Sweet and sticky ipa with a bit of peanut and diacetl. Gross, definitely one to scroll past.
2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Nocardia (38) - Little Rock, Arkansas, USA - JUN 3, 2012
Served in a traditional pint glass (16oz). Dark amber color edging towards a brownish hue. Literally no head on this beer. There is a sweet malt smell up front; a deeper sniff is required to get the hops of this one which are a deeply hidden floral, grassy character to me. The malt and the hops really battle and almost cancel one another out. The first taste to me is the caramel sweet of the malt.I got almost no hops initially which was surprising. The hops do come out at the back end, rather abruptly. They are somewhat harsh and leave a strong aftertaste. Very thin on the tongue and underwhelming. Carbonation is noticeably lacking. Not much alcohol flavor overall and the beer is just very watery. I think the balance of the malt and hops is very lacking overall. They seem to be completely independent from one another with little to no interaction which take a lot away from the beer. The lack of head and carbonation may have been a problem with the draught, so I will give this one another go, but I was just a little underwhelmed overall.
Serving type: on-tap

22oz bottle shared by Drake: Pours a clear deep copper orange with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a fresh piny and grassy hop nose with a touch of citrus. Starts with pretty good fullness and light malty sweetness with assertive hop bitterness and piny flavor before a drier, herbal dry bittersweet finish. A pretty good and true to style double IPA.
