When you get three hopheads together to collaborate on a beer, it’s only natural to expect some hopped up liquid incarnation of their lupulin lust to spring forth from such a session. Maybe it seems passé to some—three masters of hoppy beer once again exploring the familiar territory of the India pale ale. After all, who needs yet another IPA, double or otherwise, right? It’s all been done. To those who feel this way, this trio’s reply is: “So what?” In birthing a double IPA made bitter and fruity care of a mélange of new and experimental hops (Azacca, Belma, and yet-to-be-named varieties from Washington’s Yakima Valley), they aren’t staying in a comfort zone—they’re hitting a sweet spot in the name of all that is good, delicious, hoppy and forward-thinking to create an IPA that’s both like and unlike anything they, or you, have ever tasted. Rife with essence of pine, resin, and fruits both citrus and tropical, there’s no need for apologies with this beer. All that’s necessary is a yearning for hops, a sturdy constitution and an empty glass.

Aroma of lots of pine, citrus, taste is piney, citrus, lots of resin, mild malt that serves as a nice sweetness to a very bitter beer. This is a must try!

Bomber poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. Hazy yellow color with a medium white head that dissipates slowly as you drink. Amazing aroma of mango, pineappple, citrus, and pine. Taste is similar to aroma burt not quite as bold as I expected. Nonetheless, this is a very good imperial IPA and Stone comes through again for me.

Bottle: Slightly cloudy, amber, with an off-white head. Sweet, pineapple, orange/tangerine scent. Flavour is deeply resinous, bitter peel... Citric, light malt. Very smooth....almost minty. Really exceptional hop combinations.

Golden clear color, with a small, dense head. Has aromas of fruity hops, foremost orange, papaya and blood orange with bready malts and lemon peel. Taste is defined by a hoppiness which is both, fruity and bitter at the same time. Orange and fresh cut grass, followed by an onion bite and a solid white-bread malt backbone. This results in a slightly tongue numbing, slick bitterness. This brew has a perfect fitting carbonation, while sweeter fruity notes built up a very interesting contrast to an intense, bitter hoppiness. The hops come along quite complex and enjoyable, I get orange, herbal hints and grass, which stay in great balance with the malts till the very end. The finish again reveals an uncompromising, extensive hop profile, leaving a bitter, slick impression down the throat for a long time.

Bomber. Orange color, white head, smells like hops. Taste is similar, no real malt presence noted here. Good grassy and hoppy taste, fruity citrus backbone. Good stuff
