Amalgamator is our newest "West Coast" IPA that’s bursting with unique aromas and flavors. A light base of American 2-row malt makes way for the hops to take the stage. Amalgamator is hopped in the kettle with Amarillo, Warrior, Columbus, and Mosaic, a brand new American variety. The dry hop is a massive charge of Mosaic that lays down an amalgam of passion fruit, dank resin, and citrus aromas.

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 Had on-tap, on cask, and in the bottle. Review is for the bottle - bomber poured into shaker pint. Appearance is clear orange body with off-white head that has good retention and leaves some sticky patches on the glass. Aroma is super tropical with passionfruit and pineapple, solid citrus with grapefruit and orange peel, and finally some wet pine hop dankness and melon. Taste starts with some biscuit malt sweetness and then quickly yields to tropical fruit juice sweetness and citrus rind bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, bitter finish.

Bottle thanks to Jess. Thanks for a Wants beer! Bottle to snifter. Nose starts with an earthy dankiness. Warns to show some grapefruit citrus character. Fairly clear gold with small white head. Some honey malt character as it warms in aroma. Taste is initially bitter with a pithy rind like sensation. After a couple of sips, that smooths out to show some hop flavor of pine and grass. The flavor seems to be dominated by the bitterness which is a shame because the nose really shines on this beer.

Type: 16-oz. can Glass: Beer Nerd tulip From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $9.59 Purchased: Jan. 13, 2016 Consumed: Jan. 13, 2016 Misc.: Born on Jan. 11, 2016 (are you kidding me?) Saw two things that piqued my interest and eventually had me purchase it. 1) Beachwood Brewing and 2) Limit 1 per customer. Bottle is calling for Amarillo, Warrior, Columbus, Mosaic, passion fruit, blueberry, dank resin and citrus. Super psyched about this one. Poured a honey, pale, clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white, fluffy head. Tons of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass, looking like a snow globe. Very good amount of foamy, layered lacing on the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.25) Hops dominated the smell, getting Mosaic, resin, Amarillo and Citra. Also got huge tropical whiffs - mixed berry, passion fruit and bitter mango rind - as well as some pine and Warrior (I think) hops. (Smell - 4.25) Tasted a tad better than the nose. Not entirely sure, but I think bitter Warrior hops was leading the way. Also Amarillo hops, Mosaic hops, Citra hops, tropical hops, bitter mango rind, faint Nugget hops, dank resin hops, mixed berry, passion fruit and maybe some floral hops. (Taste - 4.50) Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.25) This beer basically seems like a double IPA, but it is somehow just an IPA. I may be overrating this just a bit, but very good and I can’t wait to have it again. (Overall - 4.50) 4.40 98 A

22oz bottle pours a yellow amber color without much head. Carbonation still ok. Piney hops. Crisp. Strong lingering bitterness.

Can see my waitress through the Amber. Light lasting soft foam. Smells like an IPA; slightly medicinal. Aggressive hopping. Right after you and keeps hitting. Served at a perfect temperature at the brewpub.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a clear deep gold body that has light copper hues and supports a near white head of foam. The aroma offers up some spicy dankness, woodiness and a little bit of malts off in the background. Another tug on the aroma reveals some thin candy like citrus hops that are blending well with the spiciness and more resiny smelling woody notes. Wow, the taste is quite nice with resiny, sort of woody bitterness as well as nice slim wedges of sweet citrus hoppiness. It gets a tad more juicy with citrus to midway and then it levels off with an even dry lingering modest resiny note heading into the after taste. Lovely tasting IPA.

Light copper with a nice head. Great west coast IPA with big hops and citrus on the nose. Bitterness up front with tangerine, lemon and grapefruit on the finish. Great beer.
