Big, bold, and out of control, Annihilator is an American barleywine that will unleash a barrage of flavors on your palate. It begins with a base of British Maris Otter barley for a solid foundation. Smatterings of dark British crystal malts are added for toffee and caramel accents. A three-hour boil helps enrich the deep and complex malt backbone. A heavy dose of Chinook, Columbus, and Cascade hops gives this mighty barleywine a bright and citrusy bitterness. Annihilator is waiting to be challenged by discriminating drinkers.

A fruity start (citrus, apricot, perhaps grape) morphs into a sweet warm feel with hearty malt and finishes with a moderate, woody hop character. Surprising and unique!

Sample at the Aces & Ales Winter Beer Fest on 01/16/2015. The beer pours a dark murky mahogany color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, roast malt and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is malty up front with a slightly fruity hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

>> Clear red amber pour, thin foam. Nose is sticky, stanky, strawberry. Taste is salty, toffee, spicy, sticky strawberry, big malt, spicy alcohol, high boost. Pretty good but big spice and alcohol. Not a barleywine fan usually so, haters gonna hate.

From the 38 Degrees barleywine festival. Big amount of bourbon here. Same amount of sweetness too. Caramel notes. Hops have faded from this 2012 vintage but a lovely malt forward big beer.

Enjoyed on tap as a sampler pour at Beachwood BBQ in Long Beach, CA. Really nice barley wine, appearance a marky caramel amber with almost no head. Aroma rich in syrupy caramel malt and abundant and diverse hops. Taste goes down relatively smooth and straight up potent. Gets better as it warms. Wish I could've had a proper glass, but I would've been annihilated :)
