COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American red ale brewed with American 2-row malt, a hefty helping of British caramel malt, and a smidgen of pale chocolate malt. Knucklehead Red has a great caramel malt profile that’s perfectly balanced by Columbus, Centennial, and Amarillo hops.

Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Clear red pour with an off-white head. Light, dry malt, caramel, and hop bitterness in the aroma. Taste is a nice malt profile with slight char and minimal sweetness with pine and bitterness. Clean drinker. Great beer.

Keg at Beachwood, Long Beach, 17/04/14. Clear reddish amber with a moderate light beige covering that dissipates to edgework. Nose is biscuit, toffee, sweet licks, grain. Taste comprises biscuit malt, toffee, fruit peel, hint of candied orange. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so amber shmamber achieveing the whelming 3. The weakest link in Beachwood’s armour on this visit, but that ain’t a bad thing at a 3.0 for 11 beers!

Tap at Beachwood Long Beach. Clear tea red. Good lacing. Tangy, lighter mouthfeel still with red apple skin, brown pear. Slightly tannic, biting. Simple. Not sticky. More aerated carbonation. Some newspaper and nutty, biting bitterness.

Aroma: Very hints of maltiness, but this smells almost like water. Appearance: Dark clear copper with light head. Taste: Light sweetness balanced by heavy bitterness. Palate: Medium body, lively carbonation, bubbly texture, long hoppy finish. Overall: Slightly over hopped, but still a nice beer.

On tap at the brewpub. A clear amber beer topped by an off-white head. Some fruity aromas, hints of fruit caramel and pine cones. Very soft on the palate, medium body, with flavors of fruit caramel and a little bitterness. Long finish with a fine bitterness. Not impressive, but a decent amber anyway

Draft - Toasted malts, smells just like a Marzen. Clear amber with a thin white head. Toasted malts, some grain and a nice bitterness to balance the sweetness. A nice example of the style, with a hoppy finish. I am having trouble understanding this and their other beer ’James’, very similar except for the malt profile which has more roast and chocolate.
