Mocha Machine is a well-engineered endeavor in massive aromatics and rich flavors. Brewed with an array British and German malts, this burly brew is infused with masterfully roasted coffee from Portola Coffee Lab in Costa Mesa, CA. It is then aged on cacao nibs from Equador, adding an awesomely deep dimension of fudge.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is moderately coffee forward with some nice chocolate and roast notes. Light alcohol notes. Pours dark brown, almost black with a medium sized, fairly thick, mocha head that slowly recedes to the edges. Flavor is slightly to moderately sweet with some nice chocolate and lighter roast notes. Moderate coffee character with hints of alcohol. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer with a good chocolate character that works well with the coffee notes.

Pour from a day old growler at the Vendome Pasadena bottle share. Brown pour with a slight head. Big yummy coffee nose. Really nice coffee and chocolate burst. Soft mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2014 Bottle... Pours pitch-black with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. Smells like charcoal, chili peppers and coffee grounds. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is bitter and burnt, offering coffee grounds and earthen soil. Scorched, bitter, bone-dry finish.

Appearance: Pours root beer brown with no head.

Aroma: Cold brewed coffee. Quite remarkable. Tiramisu, sweet ripe cherry

Taste: Fresh Cold brewed coffee, chocolate malt, modest European hop spice. Alcohol well hidden, and low acidity on the coffee side. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Prickly carbonation.

Overall: Just blown away by this beer and it’s complexity. There are so many coffee beers out there that tastes stale, over roasted or just unbalanced. The coffee was the star of this show and made me wish I had a few gallons of it.

Bottle, thanks to newcigarz. Dark brown pour, no real head. Beautiful coffee aroma, along with well-attenuated imperial porter. Roasty, moderately sweet, really well-integrated coffee ... Mocha machine indeed. Medium+ body, soft carbonation, holy damned delicious. So well integrated ... Loving this.

Dark brown, almost opaque, moderate beige head. Espresso, caramel, condensed milk, some vanilla, roasted malts, and a little chocolate. Pleasant sweetness initially, followed by black coffee bitterness. Medium bodied, perfect carb, and a really long bitter finish.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Dark brown color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Patchy lacing. Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee in the nose. Medium to full body with a roasty coffee and malt character with dark chocolate in the background. The finish is sweet with a namesake mocha aftertaste. Solid beer all around.

Bottle shared by Tony. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Chocolate coffee aromas. Bakers chocolate, bitter/tangy coffee, and bitter dark toasted malt notes. Huge amounts of mocha when it warms up. Good body and mouthfeel.

Holy shit this is great. Samples at GABF. Pours nearly black, nice brown head. Creamy, bold, coffee, fudge brownies, chewy. Just incredibly good. One of the best beers I had at GABF.
