COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart Simpson is a naturally tart wheat beer brewed in the traditional Berliner Weisse fashion. Equal parts of German pilsner and wheat malts are mashed in an oxygen free environment for 72 hours. Natural cultures on the grain husks sour the wort (unfermented beer) during this period in whats know as "sour mash." The beer is then gently boiled for a short period to preserve the fresh doughy notes present. Tart Simpson is fermented with one of our favorite German ale yeasts and cold conditioned for a period of three weeks to smooth our the flavors. The result is a light-bodied and refreshing wheat beer with subtle acidic notes and lively carbonation. IBUs 4

Pours light golden. Not a great aroma, like a lot of Berliners. Nice wheaty-ness in the taste. Subdued tartness. Easy drinking and low ABV make this a great summer beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Keg at Beachwood BBQ Long Beach, 17/04/14. Clear pale golden with a moderate white covering. Nose is lemon rind, spice, light pissoi, damp flannel, grassy. Taste comprises citric peel, lime cordial, corn, straw, very light acidity. Light body, fine spritzoid carbonation, crisp refreshing close. Ok ’linner, a little basic in the flavour profilr but delivers a refreshing enough close.

Taste at Beachwood in LBC. Pours a very light, clear yellow with small white head. Aroma is slight lemon and mostly lager esque. Taste is very lemon tart initially with some hay, grass and lemon zest. Very light mouthfeel but at 3% it is not that surprising. Nice crisp summer day beer.

2 oct 2013, tap at Beachwood Long Beach. Yellow, clear, no bubbles. Nose is light lemon and straw wheat beer. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Nose is a wheat beer but it tastes more like a light sour. Mildy tart like artificial lemon juice. Rather nice.

Aroma: Very tart aromas, almost vinegary. Appearance: Pale straw with rich white head. Taste: Light sweetness well balanced by medium sourness. Palate: Light body, average carbonation, watery texture, dry finish. Overall: A really well balanced beer. A bit light, but could easily serve as a palate cleanser between heavy meals.

Pours a translucent pale yellow with average head. Aromas of wheat/grain, slight chemical, lemon cleaner, and yeast. Palate is a touch watery, with wheat, lemon, and cereal. Not much tartness or acidity, one dimensional, with a dry finish.

Disappointed. This has an amazing name and I thought it was going to be an excellent sour. On tap from the brewery. Turned out to be very light and not too tart at all.
