Tovarish is a bold Russian imperial stout brewed with a base of British Maris Otter barley and heaping amounts of roasted barley and specialty malts. It’s finished with a touch of blackstrap molasses along with espresso brewed with the finest Arabian Mocha-Java coffee from our friends at Peet’s. Tovarish is remarkably rich and complex. Savor the layers of roast and dark fruits with every sip.

22oz, red waxed bottle via trade. pours a deep, dark brown and sits like the blackest coffee in the glass capped by a dark mocha head with a hint of rust around the edges. aroma is amazing, perhaps the most coffee forward beer i’ve had in a while, with huge notes of freshly ground beans, strong espresso, massive roast, smoke, and hints of vanilla backed by subtly notes of cinnamon, brown sugar, oatmeal, cocoa powder, and cedar. flavor is simply superb with immense notes of roasted espresso, mocha latte, belgian chocolate, and hazelnut creamer backed by smooth vanilla, molasses, figs, and a hint of spice on the back end. palate is smooth as silk, truly like drinking an iced espresso, with light carbonation and a lingering finish of roast coffee and chocolate. overall, this is a truly fantastic imperial stout for the coffee lover.

Clear black color with hints of dark brown, small light brown head. Coffee, kaffesump, green bell peppers scent, also sugary sweet. Sweet, coffee, roasted taste. Sweet, sugary, coffee aftertaste. Warming alcohol. Medium mouthfeel, high bitterness. A lot of coffee indeed, takes away from the beer.

Black color with a beige head. Powerful grassy and cocoa aroma. Full body. Balance between sweetness and bitterness. Heavy flavor. Espresso de lux, grassy and a bit dry. Tasty little devil. Dangerously well hidden alcohol.

(Bottle) Pours black with a brown head. The aroma holds brutal coffee up front with notes of roast, gravel, parsley, green bell pepper and chocolate with undertones of caramel, brown sugar, molasses and vanilla. The flavour is near medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light acidic with coffee, brown sugar/molasses and resinous hops. The mouthfeel is oily and fairly soft with a light to medium carbonation. Near full bodied.

Bottle received in trade. Thank you GT2! Pours dark blackish brown with a frothy mocha head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter, malty and tiny fruity with roasted malts, burnt caramel, burnt wood, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist soil, burnt raisins, hay, burnt cookies and hint of alcohol and green bell peppers. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny roasted astringent and near full bodied. Bottle sample courtesy of "hannont". Colour...infinitely black with a thick tan head. Nose...coffee, coffee, coffee, with just a touch of dark chocolate. Palate... boy howdy! This stout will wake you up in the morning!! The espresso is massive in this beer! It’s tough to tell what other flavours might exist here because the espresso is soooooo strong! The mouthfeel is thick, chewy and quite coating, as well as being fairly sweet. I rather wonder if this beer would do well to sit in the cellar for a few years.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a lot of coffee, some burnt caramel and dark chocolate, some pale malts, and light dough. Flavor the same with a great blend of the coffee and imperial stout. Smooth texture. A solid imperial stout.
