COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tovarish is a bold Russian imperial stout brewed with a base of British Maris Otter barley and heaping amounts of roasted barley and specialty malts. It’s finished with a touch of blackstrap molasses along with espresso brewed with the finest Arabian Mocha-Java coffee from our friends at Peet’s. Tovarish is remarkably rich and complex. Savor the layers of roast and dark fruits with every sip.

22oz, red waxed bottle via trade. pours a deep, dark brown and sits like the blackest coffee in the glass capped by a dark mocha head with a hint of rust around the edges. aroma is amazing, perhaps the most coffee forward beer i’ve had in a while, with huge notes of freshly ground beans, strong espresso, massive roast, smoke, and hints of vanilla backed by subtly notes of cinnamon, brown sugar, oatmeal, cocoa powder, and cedar. flavor is simply superb with immense notes of roasted espresso, mocha latte, belgian chocolate, and hazelnut creamer backed by smooth vanilla, molasses, figs, and a hint of spice on the back end. palate is smooth as silk, truly like drinking an iced espresso, with light carbonation and a lingering finish of roast coffee and chocolate. overall, this is a truly fantastic imperial stout for the coffee lover.

Bottle. Black color, tan head. Aroma of filter coffee and espresso. Taste is bittersweet coffee berries. Very nice.

Bottle sample courtesy of "hannont". Colour...infinitely black with a thick tan head. Nose...coffee, coffee, coffee, with just a touch of dark chocolate. Palate... boy howdy! This stout will wake you up in the morning!! The espresso is massive in this beer! It’s tough to tell what other flavours might exist here because the espresso is soooooo strong! The mouthfeel is thick, chewy and quite coating, as well as being fairly sweet. I rather wonder if this beer would do well to sit in the cellar for a few years.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a lot of coffee, some burnt caramel and dark chocolate, some pale malts, and light dough. Flavor the same with a great blend of the coffee and imperial stout. Smooth texture. A solid imperial stout.

Tovarish is just bonkers. The arguable flagship of this place. Had a few times on tap at brewery and once out of an un-aged bottle. For as great as this tastes, it's not complex. I don't think that's a knock. Really heavy, dark chocolatey coffee with that unmistakable espresso flavor like in Espresso Yeti but even stronger. Has the depth of the civet beans. Relaxing bottom notes as if you could make caramel less sweet. This guy's a winner.

Pitch black, deep khaki head. Molasses, syrup, coffee, chocolate, fudge and sweet. Chewy palate, coffee, chocolate, syrup, chewy finish, hint of alcohol.

20 oz bottle poured into tulip for #bottlecherwednesday at Beachwood in Seal Beach. Black opaque body with a light brown head that settles to a thin layer. Occasional lacing. Aroma is espresso, roasted malts, bakers chocolate, and dark fruits. Taste starts with moderately bitter coffee and nutty flavors then shows a light malty, chocolate sweetness. Medium-plus body, thick and creamy texture, moderate to soft carbonation, slightly bitter coffee ground finish.

HMOG 2014. This is the first of this brewery for me and this brew was never on my radar. One of the surprise highlights of the day. Thick black pour. Then the bombastic coffee just takes over. One of the biggest coffee components to a beer that I have ever had. And that is a complement in my book. Some may think over the top, but the bold, rich dark coffee with just a medium sweetness is something that resonated with me. Lovely in an aggressive way.

Bottle (22 oz). Shared by AdamJackson, thanks! Pitch black with a medium brown head that leave nice lacing. Aroma is dominated by espresso... a tad harsh at first, but it then open and became enjoyable... there’s also caramel, dark chocolate and molasses. Taste is also dominated by coffee (a little less than aroma, but it’s still the main component by far) along dark chocolate, caramel and liquorice. Bitter coffee finish. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Big bubbles. A tad harsh and very coffee forward, but not bad at all.

Thanks DontDrinkBeer for sending this over. Split 3 ways in Quebec with some friends at room temp.

A - Poured a 2 finger creamy milk chocolate head with big ’ol bubbles. Fades very slowly to some sticky lacing. Pitch black

S - Nose is big roasted day-old espresso. sort of a raw element to this one. chocolate, cocoa, espresso and licorice.

T - Insanely coffee forward. A lot of coffee like raw espresso beans just chewing on them by the handful with little bits of dates, chocolate, licorice and sweet cheap jelly beans in an assortment of dark flavors.

M - Oily, thick almost no sweetness

O - This beer just blows away your palate with coffee and fruits. It’s so freaking coffee forward that I honestly would rather just make espresso.

Excellent big, thick, robust brew with a creamy tan head. Aroma is of coffee primarily with a taste that follows through. Excellent brew.
