2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
11th June 2008. Frothy lively ale. Well balanced and a distinct fruity note from the hops. Watery finish lets it down a bit.

Bottle at Chris_o’s The Wolf tasting. Sorry Casper, but this bottle wasn’t good. Not a great aroma. Bit of an ugly bitter. Bit bleachy and nasty.

Pours muddy amber with no head. Aroma is sweet biscuits and light tartness. Completely flat mouthfeeel. Infected (again). Too bad, as the stout was wonderful...

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask conditioned at The Tiger Inn, East Dean. Copper with white head. Had this straight after my completion of The South Downs Way and boy did I need it after the Seven Sisters & Beachy Head finish. Good depth, some grain, fullish, bitter and very welcome.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask conditioned handpump Evening Star Brighton 30/07/12. A classic brown colourd beer with an off-white head and lacing. A slightly toasty note to the pleasant grainy malty aroma. Sweetness in the mouth. Earthy hop flavours. A bit of chocolate and orange too. Old fashioned but OK enough.

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle thanks to Ethereal.
A very solid bitter. Lovely mid red brown colour with a very gippy off white head and lace. Really pleasing bitter hop aroma with light tobacco notes. The malt comes through a little more in the flavour finishing with more floral hops. Straight down the line but a good performer all round.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml unfiltered bottle from local shop in Alfriston, near Eastbourne. Poured twice. Initial pour was lovely; second pour included the yeast and the profile changed completely, Provided you don’t pour in thge yeast, this is a well balanced, tasty and refreshing best bitter. A bit colour by numbers, but if what you are after is a decent, well made and traditional British bitter, then this works fine - and we don’t have too many successful bottled bitters....

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask at Tiger Inn. It pours deep amber, with a thin white head. The nose is damp leaf, leather, wood, nut and a touch of caramel. The taste is wood, leather, damp leaf, nut, underlying caramel, citrus pith and lemon soap, with a bitter-dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Decent.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask at Tiger Inn, East Dean, East Sussex. Amber with a small white head. Slight chocolate malt aroma, pleasantly earthy. The taste similarly rich and redolent of damp compost. Sharp bitter finish. Very good.
