I did enjoy this and I continue to be amazed by the draft quality of these beers. However, I think I still prefer Guinness or Mackeson.

"although the same traditional style, this one is smoother and has a slightly more pronounced flavor than Guinness, and therefore is a more enjoyable beer."

I am really missing my Beamish. I tried it while visiting Ireland and can’t find it anywhere near me at home. I really would like to be able to have this again.

My favourite beer, so I will note my bias in advance. Without doubt, the finest example of the Irish dry stout style that is produced by a major brewery. In comparison to the obvious competition from Guinness, Beamish has always struck me as a ’less rushed’ version of the style; the aroma is stronger, particularly with regards to the roasted malt, the palate is certainly more full bodied, and the taste more complex, as not only the traditional coffee notes are present, but a much larger presence of dark chocolate and roasted barley. Dry stout is a very ’blunt’ style, but I do not think that anyone does a finer job (Murphy’s is a close second!).

Dark brownish colour with a creamy light beige head. Coffee and light roasted malt aroma. Feels like you are drinking a big coffee :-) Also a bit bready and some sweet chocolate flavour.

Black appearance with thick head. Roasted aromas with caramel, similar to Guinness, but slightly more coarse and bitter. Appealing difference.

This Irish Stout is as creamy as it should be but lacks the lingering flavour of others.

Roasted malt aroma. Nitrogen tan head and black color. Creamy, toast, nuts, roasty, chocolate, bread, cereal flavors. Full palate. Dry finish. Great beer.

Classic Irish stout, tasted from a can with nitro widget. Thick, very dense and milky, brownish light beige foam, very stable (as if it were tapped from a nitro tap). Colour very dark reddish brown, almost black, clear. Aroma coffee-like as expected, toast, tobacco, peppery hops, dried plums, chocolate, port wine, peat, even a milkish accent; taste begins slightly sourish (vague lemon impression), dark malty, not sweet but fully malty, creamy mouthfeel with a fine, medium carbonation, drying out and becoming more oily, strong presence of iron, near the end sharply roasted bitterness (black coffee), still accompanied by the subtle sourishness from the onset. I prefer this way over Guinness or Murphy’s.
