Draft @ Delaney’s w/ clover shaped into the head, Perfect! Easy & smooth w/ only mild smoked taste. I can’t taste any bitterness or hops, or alcohol either? Great and goes back easy! Very creamy and, as expected, as thick clinging chucks of lace. Honestly, I prefer it to Guinness... probably b/c of the thinner palate, it just drinks easier. Very good, & a classic!

Keg at O’Neills, Dublin. It pours a brown color with a light beige head. Aroma is roasty, with notes of toasted nuts, wood, cocoa powder, vanilla, tangy wild berries. Taste is medium roasty and lightly sweet, with a tangy berry finish. Notes of chocolate, coffee, burnt wood. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, quite tasty

On draught at The Creamery Bar. Dense nitro foam on a deep mahogany body. Not as much chocolate as a Guinness but extremely smooth and creamy. Thank you sir, may I have another?

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20

"although the same traditional style, this one is smoother and has a slightly more pronounced flavor than Guinness, and therefore is a more enjoyable beer."

I am really missing my Beamish. I tried it while visiting Ireland and can’t find it anywhere near me at home. I really would like to be able to have this again.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
My favourite beer, so I will note my bias in advance. Without doubt, the finest example of the Irish dry stout style that is produced by a major brewery. In comparison to the obvious competition from Guinness, Beamish has always struck me as a ’less rushed’ version of the style; the aroma is stronger, particularly with regards to the roasted malt, the palate is certainly more full bodied, and the taste more complex, as not only the traditional coffee notes are present, but a much larger presence of dark chocolate and roasted barley. Dry stout is a very ’blunt’ style, but I do not think that anyone does a finer job (Murphy’s is a close second!).

Dark brownish colour with a creamy light beige head. Coffee and light roasted malt aroma. Feels like you are drinking a big coffee :-) Also a bit bready and some sweet chocolate flavour.
