2001 Bottle Pours a dark redish caramel color with no head and very scant lacing. Aroma is of cherry, oak, spice. Flavor is sharp, stong and of oak, hops, dark malts and somewhat grassy. Didn’t too much care for it.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a dark amber with no head and a light sweet malty aroma. Interesting up-front hoppiness in the taste with an odd kirsch-like taste. Thin body with no carb, but it doesn’t really detract. Cough syrupy, interesting but not altogether my bag.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2002 Vintage sampled Feb-08: Plenty of sherry-like oxidation over a thick, chewy malt profile in both the flavour and nose. Opaque amber-brown coloured body is topped by a low but lasting off white head. Medium full body with strong alcohol warming. Certainly showing its age but still very enjoyable. Bottle sampled at Oakes cellar raid 2007.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2002 Vintage. A malt heavy aroma hit me first, with no hint of the hops that fill this one. Balanced, thankfully by some malt in there, and finishes with a nice caramel.

muddy amber, thin off white head, light aroma of plastic horse poop, some nice malty character but covered up by off flavor, long bitter finish

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
20061111 Sampled at Cornboy’s 1st Annual Barley Wine Extravaganza
#3 Funky, cherries, horesblanket, distant bleu cheese make for a great aroma. This is clearly off, but so appealing. Flavor of milk carton, bandaid, but still enough oomph to be worthwhile drinking.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2002 vintage. Poured a clear amber color with thin tan head. The aroma seemed to contain a nuttiness plus caramel and oak. It had a thin body and smooth light flavor of caramel malts and pine hop bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2001 Vintage: Poured a dark hazy ruby brown color with a tremendous beige head. The kind that many times means trouble. Aroma of funky leather wild yeast. Tart and lightly sweet cherries. Flavor of tart cherry, other fruitiness and leather. More of a sweet than bitter finish. Body is light for a barleywine most likely from the continued wild fermentation. There is nothing here that tastes bad as long as you like the wild yeast beers. More of an imperial lambic than a barleywine with the alcohol more than well hidden. My guess is it has to be over 10% from the further yeast activity.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2001 bottle 48 ºF Scottish Thistle Glass
A ruby beer with Belgian flair, a foamy head that lasted, fruity bouquet and lace that stayed clinging like molasses. Earthy roots with cherry fruit this beer is quite intriguing
Chimay? I would say .No .Clearly a dubbel from Westmalle with its big malt ,dark fruit and alcohol. Monastic this must be with a slight tease of Brettanomyces .I know this rating is way out of line but I really enjoyed this old infected barley wine

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
01 vintage. Like others it seems, this explodes out of the bottle. Big Headed Beer. Metallic smell and taste. Acidic and acoholic but beyond that some interesting undertones that i have no idea. But relative to the beers in my local grocery, I’ll drink this anyday.
