Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 15, 2004 Clear light brown body wears not much head at all. Striking bourbon cask aroma. Mild grassy hops, earthiness and caramelic maltiness is about all there’s left. Restrained alcohol in the nose, but it becomes far more apparent and heating in mouth. Very woody, very bourbony, very simple. This was quite the living proof that bourbon barrels can’t make a beer. This screams for bolder malt structure and something, anything to counter the massive sweetness. CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 15, 2004 Has the year '02 penned in on the label. Pours about 80% head, which after a few minutes resides into a puffy off-white glob, leaving a thick lace behind. Complex and interesting aroma with some candy-like bourbon oak, caramel, peanut brittle, and some western hops trying to find their way out. Thick body starts a dark candi sugar sweet, goes through a grape Kool-aid stage, and starts to pick up some bourbon character toward the finish and a hint of milk chocolate. I don't think this has all that much alcohol in it, but I can't taste any to begin with. I was a bit confused when I first tasted it, but by the end it really grew on me. A complex and unique beer, very enjoyable. Thanks drismyhero! BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 7, 2004 2002 Bottle: Brown mahogany color with tan head, lots of carbonation and sheets of lacing. The aroma is sweet with some tasty malts and bourbon with some aged saltiness and lightly sweet fruityness like grapes and melon. The flavor has a decent alcohol presence and a bit of dry oak notes and a full malt body. Finishes balanced, the age of this gives a tendancy of underhopped while the bourbon aging qualities are overtaking the rest. acrdz (4493), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 23, 2004 A medium dark copper color with an extremely thin head, the aroma is a light bourbon, cinnamon and maple, which the flavor truly does resemble bourbon. A pleasent and sweet malt flavor throughout, with a slightly dry finish of, what else, bourbon. Very good. Thanks to HeRftYDrF for the trade! MartinT (4458), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 20, 2004 Earnest bourbon barreling almost tramples the sweet raisins and cherries...Alcohol stings the tastebuds and that bourbon again really is a zealot...They should have taken it out of the barrel much sooner, the beer underneath is too frail maltwise to survive this onslaught...
