Poured from a bottle into a English pint glass. Pours a hazy brown with a very thick off white head and lacing that sticks to the glass. Aroma is quite hoppy with a hint of sweetness. Taste is very hop forward with some sweetness. Below average carbonation that leaves the palate cleanly.

2012 vintage. A clear copper brown ale with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with catnip floral hops, resinous character, brown sugar, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with nice resinous floral hops, treacle, very nice for a two year old Bottle.

On tap at Fat Heads 7.2%. 60 IBU. Big brown ale. Rich caramel and chocolate tones, with a pleasant hop balance. Fresh. Lots of depth, solid for the style. Lighter side of full bodied.

Pours a burnt copper color with a khaki head. Malt, toffee, hop, citrus, pine and biscuit aroma. Hop, citrus, pine, floral, caramel, toffee, biscuit and malt flavors. medium body and carbonation with a biscuit, hop and malt finish.

Draft. Dark brown with a big off white head. Shockingly hoppy. Lots of pine and citrus. Not what I was expecting from a brown ale but very tasty.

Bottle at home in Salisbury, CT. Pours clear, amber-brown with a big, tan foam head. Maple crunch granola on the nose, some toasted cereals, pine, orange. Light to medium sweet flavor with rich toasted brown bread, mild figs, earth, faint alcohol, grapes, ripe citrus. Medium bodied with fine to average, almost lively carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with mild sticky toasted pine, bread, light baking cocoa, a bite more ripe citrus. Well balanced and nicely nuanced.

"I thought I poured it warm enough...the first sip was ok...but every sip from there to the eng just kept getting better. Pretty agrees overly hoppy...lots o pine. A medium roasted malty brown ale with just enough brown sugar and molasses to notice, both of which were very nice touches in this unique tasting and smelling brew. "

Been wondering about this one.
Pours more brown than black ;) some tan foam sticks around and etching lace remains for a bit. Nice ruby hue around the fringe. Assertive, west coast on PNW resiny hop profile up front in the nose. There are hints of brown sugar in the nose, but mostly dank ass hops. Bitter with a good solid medicinal character on the flavor. There is a certain amount of vinyl in this one for me - really odd. The molasses seems to have been quite well fermented into sharp alcohol. There is also a bitter metallic flavor. The mouthfeel is full and highly cabonated with an excessively dry finish. I’m not impressed with this one.

Overall, this beer comes off like a solid pale, IPA...as opposed to a brown ale. Solid but will burn you out somewhat.

P: Beautiful pour. Dark murky wake of brown swamp water with a multitude of floaters. Dense frothy khaki head that jiggles like pudding. Great retention and intricate lacing.
S: Sweet syrup, molasses, brown sugar, maple, toasted toffee and caramel, spicy hops, clove, trash bag funk. Dark fruits, timid smoke, traces of smoldered wood chips. Spices are tingling my nose.
T/M: Huge taste of ground spices cooked in molasses to the point of burning. Burnt toffee, grains and wood gives off the signature Stone smoked presence. Earthy and spiced hops deliver a rustic flare. Dark fruits soaked in spiced rum and brown sugar. Busquity yeast and hidden funkiness in the background. Syrupy body with a gentle massage of bubbly carbonation. Finishes dry and earthy. Touches of oxidation.
O: I was worried that this would be bad from the reviews I read since it was old but I was really impressed. I loved the rugged flavors and spice profile against the sugary sweetness. This could be a meal in a glass. The hop profile was nice and complimenting and not overly bitter. I wish I could have tried this fresh.
